Vikings Volleyball Remains Undefeated, Claiming Back-to-Back NEPSAC Class A Championships
King Volleyball completed another undefeated season, claiming back-to-back NEPSAC Class A titles and the program’s tenth straight New England championship. Despite losing key players from the previous year, the Vikings leaned on disciplined practices, shared goals, and a culture of resilience and teamwork to maintain focus and excel under pressure, dominating both league and postseason play.

King School Delegates Shine at 2025 Brown University Model UN
King School’s Model UN team delivered a standout performance at the 2025 Brown University Simulation of the United Nations, where upper school delegates engaged in challenging global debates alongside peers from across the country. Students earned multiple awards, including Best Delegate for Nick Marti ’27, Outstanding Delegate for Justina Marque ’27, Diplomatic Commendation for Max Marti ’27, and Honorable Mentions for Izzy Ryan ’28 and Lilah Mehta ’27. In committees ranging from food security in climate-impacted regions to global access to clean drinking water, delegates drew on interdisciplinary knowledge, collaborated across differing viewpoints, and successfully advanced resolutions.

“A Midsummer Night’s Dream” Blends Tradition and Tech
Visually stunning and emotionally moving performances of “A Midsummer Night’s Dream” brought the magic of Shakespeare to the Performing Arts Center this week. Under the guidance of new performing arts teacher Andrew Wildman-Foster, actors and crew members tackled complex choreography, refined their expressive abilities, and navigated the challenges of working with a large ensemble. The production also introduced advanced technical elements, including the school’s first instance of safely flying a performer, which required careful coordination and communication among the backstage team. Throughout the entire production process, students built a supportive, creative community, strengthened their problem-solving and collaboration skills, and embraced the personal growth that comes from engaging in ambitious, risk-taking theatrical work.

Sue Cesare Celebrates 95th Birthday at King's Championship Semifinal
When a packed gymnasium breaks into song for a single person, it must be somebody special. On Saturday, November 15, King School welcomed back one of its most beloved figures as former Head of School Sue Cesare LH’48, KP’78, ’81, GP’12, ’26 returned to campus to celebrate her 95th birthday in spectacular fashion: watching the Vikings Volleyball team advance to the NEPSAC Class A championship match.

Calling All Vikings: Double-Header Semi-Final Games Tomorrow at King!
Congratulations to Field Hockey and Girls Volleyball for advancing to New England semi-final games on Saturday after big wins this week! As the #2 seed, Field Hockey used steady pressure, strong defense, and timely scoring to earn a 4-0 shutout win over Wheeler School (RI) at home, while top-seed Volleyball hit the road to Cheshire Academy, where they dominated in a 3-0 sweep over Winsor School (MA)! Both teams now move on to play at home tomorrow, Saturday, November 15, with a chance to advance to the NEPSAC finals on Sunday!

Vikings Head into FAA Playoffs After Strong Senior Day Performances
The Vikings are gearing up for an exciting postseason as the Varsity Field Hockey, Girls Volleyball, and Girls Soccer teams all advance to the FAA playoffs next week. The celebrations continued this week with Senior Day victories for Field Hockey and Volleyball, highlighted by dominant performances and heartfelt recognition of the senior athletes’ leadership and commitment. Boys Soccer capped off the week with a thrilling comeback win, while JV Volleyball and JV Boys Soccer prepare for their FAA tournaments this weekend. The Crew team concluded its fall season with strong showings at the Head of the Schuylkill Regatta, and Cross Country runners competed admirably at the FAA Championship Meet. Looking ahead, the Athletics Department announced new leadership for Varsity Boys Ice Hockey, with a renewed focus on growth, teamwork, and excellence as the winter season approaches.

Form and Fantasy Collide in Grade 8 Creature Sculptures
Grade 8 art majors explored the element of form through a Halloween-themed sculpture project that challenged them to turn sketches into imaginative three-dimensional creatures. Using wire, newspaper, cardboard, plaster, and papier-mâché, students created inventive works that blended playfulness and skill. A gallery walk on Wednesday, October 29, in the Middle School Main Commons brought the sculptures to life, giving artists the chance to share their creative process and reflect on their artistic growth.

Pumpkin Math Adds Up to Hands-On Learning and Fall Fun
Grade 1 students celebrated the culmination of their annual Pumpkin Math unit by transforming their classrooms into lively labs of exploration. The interdisciplinary project blended math, literacy, and social-emotional learning as students measured, weighed, and described their pumpkins before carving them with help from parent volunteers. From estimating weight and grouping seeds by tens to reading fall-themed stories and discussing King’s virtues, the unit offered a perfect balance of inquiry, creativity, and collaboration — topped off with plenty of gooey, slimy fun!

King Debate Wins October Tournament
Congratulations to Steven Blanco ’25 and Ryan Jakubowski ’25, who led the King Debate Team to an undefeated 5-0 record at the October Connecticut Debate Association tournament. Competing against nearly 30 schools and more than 80 competitors in the varsity bracket, the outstanding win was secured in the final round against host school Joel Barlow High School. The team fielded 12 debaters across novice and varsity divisions, highlighting the team’s growth, skill, and commitment to excellence in competitive debate.

Exploring Francophone Culture Through Cuisine
Students in an upper school French honors class recently completed an immersive exploration of the eating habits of French-speaking communities worldwide. By delving into the geography, natural resources, and traditional cuisines of regions such as Algeria, Martinique, Tunisia, the Ivory Coast, and Morocco, students discovered how food reflects the values, traditions, and daily lives of diverse cultures. During a three-day visit to King School, educator, consultant, and former Division I football player David Watts inspired students, faculty, coaches, and parents through a series of presentations on leadership, equity, and community. Drawing from his own journey as a walk-on athlete at UC Berkeley, Watts emphasized the power of perseverance, self-awareness, and the “walk-on mindset,” a commitment to hard work and resilience in pursuit of personal and collective goals. His “Equity Toolkit” framework encouraged the King community to strengthen relationships and foster inclusion both on and off the field. Through student assemblies, coach workshops, and parent sessions, Watts’ message, supported by Athletics and DEIB leaders, reinforced King’s commitment to building an athletic culture rooted in empathy, equity, and shared purpose.

King’s Frog Project Begins Expansion Into Zoos Across the U.S.
King’s Frog Conservation Project has leapt from a single classroom vivarium to a national stage, now partnering with accredited zoos across the country. This past summer, the project delivered its first student-built vivarium and frogs to Jenkinson’s Aquarium in New Jersey, with plans underway for additional deliveries to zoos across the country. King students are demonstrating how curiosity, engineering, and conservation can make a global impact.

Jonovan Bracey '26 Combines History and Art Through Independent Study
Jonovan Bracey’s ’26 new installation, “Reflections on the Vietnam War,” on display in the Upper School, invites viewers to explore the conflict through the eyes of a soldier and a protesting veteran. Developed during an independent study last spring, the mixed-media work uses a central mirror to draw the audience into the scene, encouraging reflection on the complex legacy of one of America’s most divisive wars.

Middle School Players Sing Their Way Through Hilarious Whodunit
In a spirited and ambitious performance, middle school students brought the musical mystery “Curtains: Young@Part" to life with humor, heart, and teamwork. The production challenged the cast with its fast-paced plot, complex characters, and ensemble-driven energy, giving students a meaningful opportunity to grow as performers. With guidance from faculty and a supportive rehearsal process, students gained confidence as they took on the show’s emotional depth and theatrical challenges.
