Year-Long Programs

Vikings Mathletes Math Team (Grades 4-5)

Students who join the Vikings Mathletes will have an opportunity to showcase their math talent and think outside the box.

Under the leadership of Mrs. Bruno, the Viking's Mathletes will practice solving challenging problems and prepare for Math Olympiad contests between the months of November and March (fourth and fifth-grade students participate in the competition). There will be weekly meetings to practice for the contests. The Vikings Mathletes will challenge, excite, and motivate you to be a more robust mathematician. Everyone has a different perspective to bring to the table, and together, we will learn and conquer math concepts. Students will build confidence in math and also learn how to collaborate and be part of a team.

Please note that this is a year-long commitment. There will be a prerequisite assessment to determine student eligibility for the team and two meetings with parents (one in September, one in January) to deliver information and updates about the team. We will also have an end-of-year party in May to celebrate the students. Please only sign up if your child can fully commit to 1 class a week from October through May.

Offerings for Winter (Kindergarten-Grade 5)

Six to eight-week sessions (see activities for specific dates and times)

The Art of Penmanship (Grades 3–5)

Students will learn how to write in cursive and, most importantly, write their own signature so that they will be able to use this ability for the rest of their lives! From cuneiform to hieroglyphics to script, our society's handwriting has evolved throughout the years. The art of cursive is an important skill that students should learn in order to enhance their day-to-day penmanship. Handwriting requires the motor coordination of multiple joints in the hand, wrist, elbow, and shoulder to form letters and to arrange them on the page. With practice and familiarity, handwriting becomes highly automated using motor programs stored in motor memory. We will also utilize fun tools to help us practice, including handwriting apps, sand trays, whiteboards, and chalkboards!

  • Time: 3:00–4:00 p.m.

From our improv work, we will begin to write and/or perform in our own scripted comedy sketches! And the class will culminate in a filmed comedy sketch, to share with families.
