After-School PROGRAMS
King offers a variety of programming for students that take place after school.
This includes enrichment classes, which occur on a weekly basis over a few months, and After Care, which is a daily after school option. Learn more below.

Enrichment Classes
King is pleased to offer after-school enrichment classes to suit a variety of interests.
Registration for these classes is by email only. Please contact the faculty listed below directly with any questions or to register for a class. These opportunities are updated every few months, so please check the weekly newsletter for announcements of new programs. If you have any questions concerning after-school enrichment classes in general, please contact Catherine Lewis, Assistant to the Head of Lower School, at clewis@kingschoolct.org or (203) 322-3496 Ext. 1310.
**Please note, enrichment classes take place when school is in session. There are no classes during school breaks. In the event of a snow day, classes will be re-scheduled for another date.
Year-Long Programs
| Vikings Mathletes Math Team (Grades 4-5) |
|---|
Students who join the Vikings Mathletes will have an opportunity to showcase their math talent and think outside the box. Under the leadership of Mrs. Bruno, the Viking's Mathletes will practice solving challenging problems and prepare for Math Olympiad contests between the months of November and March (fourth and fifth-grade students participate in the competition). There will be weekly meetings to practice for the contests. The Vikings Mathletes will challenge, excite, and motivate you to be a more robust mathematician. Everyone has a different perspective to bring to the table, and together, we will learn and conquer math concepts. Students will build confidence in math and also learn how to collaborate and be part of a team. Please note that this is a year-long commitment. There will be a prerequisite assessment to determine student eligibility for the team and two meetings with parents (one in September, one in January) to deliver information and updates about the team. We will also have an end-of-year party in May to celebrate the students. Please only sign up if your child can fully commit to 1 class a week from October through May.

| Art of Penmanship (Print & Cursive) (Grades 1–4) |
Handwriting Without Tears (HWT) is an evidence-based, multisensory program designed to improve letter formation, handwriting fluency, and fine motor skills. Through engaging, developmentally appropriate techniques—such as movement, tactile materials, and specialized two-line paper—handwriting is made enjoyable and frustration is reduced. The program focuses on a developmental sequence of learning lower and upper case letters and addresses fine motor skills, pencil grip, letter formation, and spacing. The focus will be on print for Grades 1 and 2 and cursive for Grades 3 and 4 (students may choose their preference).
| Baseball (Grades K–1) |
In this program, students will develop foundational baseball skills with an emphasis on teamwork, sportsmanship, fun, and exercise. Through fun-filled drills and scrimmages, students will practice throwing, fielding, hitting, and cheering for their teammates. Students should bring their own baseball glove; all other equipment will be provided.
| Clay-mazing Creations! (Grades 3–5) |
Clay-mazing Creations invites students to get their hands messy while thinking like artists. In this student-centered studio, young sculptors will explore clay through play, experimentation, and purposeful making—learning how to pinch, coil, slab, and join while discovering what the material can do. Students will persist through challenges, envision ideas before building, and express their own stories and designs in three-dimensional form.
| King Children’s Ensembles (KCE) |
In partnership with Project Music, King offers after-school music ensembles for Lower School students. The King Children's Ensembles (KCE) are designed to enhance students’ musical exposure and development through group instruction. For an additional fee, these classes build on foundational skills taught in Lower School Music by providing the opportunity to further study a musical instrument in an ensemble setting.
| Little Builders (Grades K–2) |
In this class, students will explore different building materials, design concepts, and building processes. Through games, group work, and individual exploration, students will learn about scale, balance, and important building strategies. Children will then design and build their own structures using cardboard, recycled materials, and wood.
| Lower School King Cares Club (Grades 1–5) |
Partnering with organizations such as Kids in Crisis, The Baking Happiness Co., Building One Community, Long Ridge Post-Acute Care, and Stamford Hospital, students will connect with others through service and creativity. Students will participate in activities such as arts and crafts projects as they “Share a Smile” with others, with possible opportunities to visit community partners in person.
| Private Music Lessons (Grades K–12) |
In partnership with Project Music, King School offers private lessons that provide individualized instruction to students in Kindergarten through Grade 12 for an additional fee. Lessons are taught by King and Project Music faculty in brass, woodwinds, strings, and more. Lesson times are scheduled based on teacher availability, with options varying by division.

Explore the world of robotics using the interactive Dash robot—no prior experience required! Students will learn to code and solve puzzles through hands-on challenges and play in an inclusive environment.
| Select Chorus (Grades 3–5) |
Calling all singers! In Select Chorus, students will learn about their voices and experience singing in an ensemble setting. Rounds, partner songs, multi-part harmonies, and music of all styles help develop balance, blend, intonation, and musical artistry. The session culminates in a performance at the Grandparents and Special Friends Day assembly in May.
| Singing Club (Grades K–5) |
In after-school Singing Club, students will explore the joy of making music together in a supportive and encouraging environment. Each session begins with warm-ups and sing-alongs to build confidence and strengthen voices. Students will choose a song to practice across the session, culminating in a final sharing with families and loved ones.
| Soccer (Grades K–5) |
JC Athletics is excited to bring soccer clinics to King School! Coach Jose Carvajal will guide athletes through skill-building in ball control, dribbling, passing, and shooting using exciting drills and mini-games. The goal is a fun, safe learning environment for all skill levels while building confidence and love for the game.
| Stop Motion (Grades 3–5) |
Students learn how to create stop motion movie shorts using a stop motion app. Using a variety of materials, including clay, LEGO, art supplies, and objects from nature, students create mini-movies and bring stories to life through animation.
| Storycraft Studio (Grades K–2) |
Join us for a creative and engaging class where literature meets art! We’ll start by reading an inspiring story, then bring aspects of it to life through a hands-on art activity. Using fabric, clay, paint, and other mediums, young artists will create unique masterpieces inspired by what they read.
| Storytelling Through Film (Grades 3–5) |
With weekly prompts, students will tell compelling and entertaining stories through video. They will build editing skills (selecting, splitting, trimming clips, choosing playback speeds, exploring transitions, adding special effects) and examine the elements of effective visual storytelling, including tone, pacing, point of view, and framing.
| Twist and Tangle: Weaving Wonders (Grades 2–5) |
In this hands-on class, students will dive into the colorful world of weaving and textile art. They’ll create a loom, choose materials, and craft a unique bag or pillow. Students will also learn to make I-cords with a spool knitter for decorative touches. This cozy, creative class blends skill-building with self-expression.
