PreK - Grade 2

Physical Education emphasizes free exploration, body awareness, and proprioceptive activities using modified equipment and engaging physical examples.

Students participate in a wide range of movement-based activities that promote the development of fundamental motor skills such as running, jumping, skipping, balancing, and throwing. These activities are designed to help students build spatial awareness — learning to navigate space safely, control their bodies, and move with purpose in relation to others. Through play and structured exercises, students learn to work individually, with partners, and in group settings. Cooperation, teamwork, and good sportsmanship are introduced and reinforced, helping students build a strong social and emotional foundation for future physical learning.

Grades 3-4

Students build a strong foundation in proper exercise techniques and fitness routines while learning to set realistic goals to improve their strength, endurance, and flexibility over the course of the school year.

Physical education becomes more sports-focused, with an emphasis on developing specific skills, understanding game rules, and exploring basic sports strategies. Positive sportsmanship is defined and explored more deeply as a concept. It is connected directly to gameplay, allowing students to practice respect, teamwork, and fair play within competitive settings. The primary focus remains on using individual strengths to grow and succeed, with an emphasis on personal improvement rather than winning or losing.

Grade 5

The Physical Education program takes a deeper dive into the science of physical fitness, emphasizing the importance of healthy eating, regular exercise, and overall wellness.

Sport-specific concepts and strategies are further developed, giving students hands-on experience in a variety of individual and team sports. Personalized attention and positive reinforcement foster personal growth, build confidence, and support continued skill development. As students cultivate a stronger understanding and appreciation for diverse athletic activities, they gain the confidence and readiness needed to successfully transition into the Middle School Athletics program.
