What's Possible When Wonder
Leads the Way?
At King, the smartest person in the room is not the one with all the answers; it's the one with all the questions.
Our students are curious—they aren't afraid to ask why, try something new, or get it wrong before they get it right.
Because if it weren’t for curiosity, no one would have ever discovered that the Earth is round. If it weren’t for questions, we wouldn’t know that we can fly. If it weren’t for exploration, we would never have reached the moon. Questions took us there.
We believe in the POWER OF WONDER.
Curiosity leads to exploration, and exploration leads to mastery of foundational skills in all areas of the curriculum. We create an environment that elevates wonder, curiosity, and joy. Our youngest students’ curiosity is maximized because we honor their questions and consider their perspectives as we build strong educational foundations. As a result, they develop the confidence and accountability to discover and explore.

How Do Big Questions Shape Bright Futures?
Harnessing the Power of Curiosity
Students at King raise big questions, and teachers use those questions to guide the learning. Curiosity takes the lead as students develop skills in literacy, numeracy, and the sciences. Equally important is developing a research mindset. That’s what we mean by an inquiry-based education. Students’ questions shape each step of the process, helping them learn more about themselves and the world they live in. The program is designed to ensure the lasting learning of core academic skills as well as foundations in communication, critical thinking, character, and personal growth. This preparation ensures readiness for the higher grades.

Learning Through a Global Lens
Education in the lower school years is all about sparking curiosity, building empathy, and helping young learners see themselves as part of a big, interconnected world. We help our students develop a broad perspective through a curriculum that encourages them to explore global topics, engage in hands-on learning experiences, and connect with different cultures through literature, language, and interdisciplinary projects. A global lens is infused in every discipline and activity. Whether it’s exploring global traditions, learning a new language, or diving into a collaborative project, students are encouraged to ask questions, think critically, and make connections beyond their own experiences. It’s all about nurturing open-minded, thoughtful children who grow up as global citizens.

How Does a Nurturing Environment
Fuel Student Success?
A supportive and welcoming environment makes all the difference in a child’s learning journey. Children who feel supported are more likely to take chances, ask big questions, and fully engage in their learning. At King, we understand that this is key for academic and social-emotional success.
This sense of belonging is built through teacher connections, social interactions, collaborative classroom experiences, and a culture that celebrates kindness and respect. Through this approach, students grow in confidence, develop empathy for others, and feel excited to learn every day. It’s in this kind of nurturing space that children truly thrive — curious, happy, and ready to take on the world!

At King School, we believe that the earliest years of education set the foundation for a lifetime of curiosity, confidence, and discovery. The way children learn at this age — through play, exploration, and inquiry — shapes how they will approach learning for years to come.
We see young children as capable, competent learners who construct their understanding of the world through hands-on experiences, questions, and collaboration.
Our Reggio-Emilia-inspired approach is a perfect fit for our Early Childhood program. We honor children's questions and ideas, encouraging them to take the lead in their learning. Instead of simply providing answers, our teachers create opportunities for children to explore, experiment, and discover for themselves. When learning is connected to children's natural interests, they develop critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and a love for discovery that will stay with them throughout their academic journey and beyond.

Grade 5 students are the leaders of our Lower School! They hold elections and participate in student government. The program is designed to build on their growing confidence, independence, and sense of responsibility, setting them up for success in both academics and personal development. Grade 5 students work with subject-area experts in math, science, English, social studies, and more, while also focusing on developing strong executive function skills like organization and long-term planning. They help organize events, lead clubs, and act as role models.
With hands-on projects and activities such as the Philadelphia trip, capstone projects, and the lower school musical, students have plenty of opportunities to shine. As they move into Grade 6, they begin to seamlessly integrate into the middle school community, with dedicated mentoring and orientation that helps ease the transition to middle school. Grade 5 is an exciting year full of discovery, responsibility, and fun while preparing for the next chapter of the King adventure!
