Philanthropy

The Power of Generosity

Welcome, and thank you for your interest in learning about the critical role that philanthropy plays in the success of King School.

King, like all independent schools, relies on the generosity of its community to cover operating expenses, provide financial access, attract and retain talented educators, offer relevant and innovative programming, and maintain our campus and facilities. Gifts from alumni, parents, faculty, staff, and friends support King students today and tomorrow, helping ensure the lasting legacy of the school for generations to come.

We look forward to providing you with opportunities to stay connected to and support King. Your gift goes far beyond tangible rewards; it allows us to remain engaged and strong and continue to deliver on our mission to help students thrive in a rapidly changing world.

Every gift makes a difference. Thank you for all you have done and continue to do for King.

Ways to Support King

Annual Fund

The Annual Fund is King’s most important fundraising effort for which the school asks all community members to participate. The funds raised subsidize tuition dollars, providing approximately 6% of the annual budget, to ensure that King can continue to provide a well-rounded educational experience for students in PreK through Grade 12. The funds support academic and co-curricular programs, faculty professional development, arts, athletics, and more. The Annual Fund allows all King students to access and experience an inquiry-based learning opportunity.

Capital Campaigns

Capital Campaigns strengthen the foundation and transform the future for King, supporting facilities, endowments and programs. Capital Campaigns are planned to respond to the priorities identified in the school’s Strategic and Master Plans. Past Capital Campaigns at King School have provided facilities such as the South Field Complex, the Performing Arts Center, the Turf Field, as well as allowed for major renovations to the Upper School Academic Center.

Special Events

The Development Office staff schedules many special events during the year to gather community members including: the State of the School, Homecoming, New Parent events, a biennial gala, the Vikings Cup (golf outing), and more! The events are designed to build community and make all families and alumni feel connected to the school.

Endowment

King School has been the fortunate recipient of gifts directed to various endowed funds. Donors who give to these funds understand and support the importance of planning for the future. The principle of an endowed fund can never be spent, but the funds help offset operating costs by creating annual income that can be drawn according to the policies set by the Board. The school has a general endowment to which donated funds are not restricted in their use, as well as named endowed funds that support specific areas of the school such as financial aid or professional development for faculty and staff.

Planned Giving

You can make a lasting contribution to future generations by designating King School as a beneficiary of your estate plan. Your estate gift helps ensure King’s future while also possibly providing tax benefits for you and your family. Society members provide far-sighted support of King and play an essential role in ensuring the School’s continued financial health and tradition of excellence.
