Health & WELLNESS
Broadening our focus to the wellness of our whole community of students and adults.
We inspire the development of fulfilled young people who embody a sense of purpose and maintain wellness and balance. To do this, we have several areas within the school that help nurture healthy habits and services to help when needed, including our nurses' office, our school counselors, and athlete health services. These services ensure that each child enters the classroom in optimal health and is ready to learn.

Magnus Health |
King School has partnered with Magnus Health to store, collect, and manage your child’s health in one secure online location. The partnership with Magnus Health allows King to ultimately provide more efficient and consistent healthcare services to your child, including: Document collection: All medical documentation forms and policies for physical examinations, food or insect allergies, and medications should be accessed and submitted through Magnus. Parents will have access to these forms 24/7, and most should only need to be submitted to King once per year. You will receive weekly automated email alerts from Magnus beginning six weeks before due dates. Daily care: Submitted information is easily updated throughout the year, ensuring the school is informed of current health needs and can make the best decisions when caring for your child. Information includes a complete health history, emergency contacts, allergies, medications, conditions, and more. Important forms may include permissions, action plans, consent to treat, etc. |
Magnus Instructions |
A group designed as a safe space for students who identify as Learning Disabled and/or a person with Learning Differences and would like to discuss their experiences as a student at King with their challenges as well as the joys of being able to see the world uniquely, creatively, and differently. As you know, King School partners with Magnus Health to store, collect, and manage your child’s health in one secure online location. The partnership with Magnus Health allows King to provide more efficient and consistent healthcare services. In late June, you will receive an email notification from King School as a reminder to update your child’s profile in Magnus. After you receive this email, you will begin receiving weekly email reminders from Magnus Health, called “Magnus Health Alerts,” until you complete the annual submission process for vital health information, including all medical and athletic requirements and forms. Please note you can access Magnus Health at any time. You do not have to wait until you receive Magnus Health Alerts to update your child’s health information.
New FamiliesWhen you log into Magnus for the first time, you will need to set up your children in the Magus Health System. Once they have been added, this information will be stored for future use. See the tab below for a quick Magnus tutorial under “Magnus - First Time User.” Deadline for Completion: August 1All items in Magnus need to be 100% complete and approved before students can start school and/or participate in athletics.
Physical Examination/Health Assessment Record RequirementsThe requirements for Physical Examinations/Immunization Records are clearly delineated in the “Approval Guidelines” found in your Magnus Student Health Tracker. Connecticut State Law requires all NEW students and all students ENTERING PRE-K, KINDERGARTEN, and GRADES 6 & 9 to submit a physical within ONE YEAR of the start of school. The form we use at King is the State of Connecticut Health Assessment Record (this can be downloaded from Magnus). For your information, King also requires a physical examination/Health Assessment Record every 13 months for students participating in athletics (Grades 7-12).
Medication RequirementsAll the school medication requirements (including those students with life-threatening allergies) can be found in the “Approval Guidelines” next to the Medication Authorization section in Magnus. Please note: All medication must be delivered to the Nurse’s Office by a parent or guardian in the original, unopened package or prescription container with a label. The school does not have any “stock” medication, and we cannot administer any medication (including Tylenol, Advil, etc.) without a completed authorization form and medication supplied by a parent or guardian.

COVID-19 Protocols and Information
The COVID-19 pandemic presented schools with unprecedented realities. At King School, the Board of Trustees and the school leadership have partnered to design and implement a plan that helps King School navigate the current challenges, with the health and safety of our community as the overarching priority. Also, front and center of every decision is the goal of providing King students with the most robust academic experience possible.
Our COVID-19 policies and protocols rely on current scientific evidence and are thoughtfully designed in consultation with health experts. They follow the requirements from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the state of Connecticut (DPH), the Connecticut State Department of Education, and the city of Stamford.
We continue to monitor the rapidly evolving conditions of the COVID-19 pandemic, especially as they relate to new and more transmissible variants. We are prepared to adjust our current policies should federal, state, and local guidance require that we do so. We remain dedicated to making decisions that align with King's mission, virtues, and strategic plan.
General Protocols
Vaccination and Boosters |
---|
King School strongly encourages all eligible community members to receive an FDA-authorized and/or approved COVID-19 vaccination and appropriate boosters. To inform future decisions, we require all students to inform us of their vaccine status. Students who have received a COVID-19 vaccine should upload their most recent vaccination card to their Magnus profile. Instructions for uploading cards can be found here. Not yet vaccinated students should email school nurse Jenn D’Orta to inform her of their vaccine status. |
Symptoms, Positive COVID-19 Cases, and Exposure Protocols |
Positive COVID-19 CasesAfter testing positive for COVID-19, individuals may go back to normal activities, including school and work, when the following are both true for 24 hours:
ExposureStudents and employees notified that they were exposed to an individual who tested positive for COVID-19 may continue to come to campus unless symptoms develop. Per the CDC guidelines, these individuals should get tested on Day 6 (five full days after exposure) and be screened carefully for symptoms. (See section below). Symptom ScreeningWe ask all students and employees to self-screen for symptoms daily. At this time, we are not requiring the submission of a daily attestation. Individuals with mild respiratory disease symptoms (infrequent cough, congestion, runny nose, sore throat, etc.), no fever, and no known COVID-19 case in their household should self-test at home for COVID-19 before leaving for school every day have symptoms and can be allowed on campus if their test result is negative and they feel well enough to participate. Anyone with a fever (≥100°F) or who feels feverish should not come to campus until their fever has resolved for at least 24 hours without medication and should test for COVID-19. Individuals with mild respiratory disease symptoms (infrequent cough, congestion, runny nose, sore throat, etc.) and fever or individuals with symptoms and a household member who recently tested positive for COVID-19 (within the past two weeks) should stay home until their symptoms resolve and test for COVID-19. Face MasksFace masks are currently optional for all students and employees of King School. |
Travel Policy |
King School follows Connecticut's travel advisory. Please read the guidance carefully and adhere to the requirements and recommendations that apply to your situation. As always, we will remain informed of state transmission trends and adjust our policies accordingly. |
Cleaning and Hygiene Practices |
Cleaning ProceduresSurfaces are cleaned daily, and high-traffic areas are cleaned and disinfected several times throughout the day. HandwashingEveryone on campus is encouraged to wash their hands and/or use hand sanitizer upon entering each building, classroom, and office. Hand sanitizing stations are installed throughout the campus in classrooms, offices, and public spaces for easy daily access. |
Academics and Other Programs
Remote Learning |
---|
King School values in-person instruction and does not provide a remote learning option. However, students with extraordinary medical circumstances may be granted remote access as a short-term accommodation. Students granted this accommodation will view their classes over Zoom or Google Meet with limited participation. In cases of extraordinary medical circumstances, families should contact the school nurses and the respective division head to be added to the remote learning list. |
Events |
King School events will continue to follow state and federal guidelines to ensure the safety of our community. When possible, events will be held outdoors. |
Counseling at King
Lower School |
---|
The LS Counseling Department facilitates the social and emotional development of all of our students through the development, implementation, and coordination of the social skills, life skills, emotional development, and prevention programming for the Lower School. A school psychologist works part-time with the division leadership to support individuals and small groups. The Psychologist, Head of Lower School, and Director of Teaching and Learning meet regularly with teachers and, as needed, families to ensure children are experiencing school growth, socially and academically. There is also support and guidance for parents and referrals to community resources. |
Middle School |
The Student Support Team (SST) comprises the Middle School Counselor, the Director of Teaching and Learning, and the Dean of Students. This group meets regularly to review the program, student progress and wellness, and parent education. The SST also collaborates closely with advisors and Team Leaders to ensure consistent or programmatic implementation through the Advisory and Life Skills curriculum. |
Upper School |
The School Counselors are available as a supportive resource to all Grades 9-12 students. The Counselors offer brief solution-focused sessions regarding issues affecting students’ academic or social health. The Counselors also take the opportunity to meet with students new to the Upper School to discuss any issues that may arise during their transition to a new school environment. Although most students come to the Counselors by their own referral, Administrators, Personal Advisors, and/or parents can also refer students when they feel that some level of intervention is necessary. |
