King is pleased to offer after-school enrichment classes to suit a variety of interests.
Registration for these classes is by email only. Please contact the faculty listed below directly with any questions or to register for a class. These opportunities are updated every few months, so please check the weekly newsletter for announcements of new programs. Please note, enrichment classes take place when school is in session. There are no classes during school breaks. In the event of a snow day, classes will be re-scheduled for another date.

Vikings Mathletes Math Team ( Grades 4-5)
Students who join the Vikings Mathletes will have an opportunity to showcase their math talent and think outside the box. Under the leadership of Ms. Samra, the Vikings Mathletes will practice solving challenging problems and prepare for Math Olympiad contests between the months of November and March. There will be weekly meetings to practice for the contests. The Vikings Mathletes will challenge you, excite you, and motivate you to be a stronger mathematician. Everyone has a different perspective to bring to the table, and together we will learn and conquer math concepts. Students will build confidence in math and also learn how to collaborate and be part of a team.
Please note that this is a year-long commitment. There will be a prerequisite assessment to determine student eligibility for the team, and two meetings with parents (one in September, one in January) to deliver information and updates about the team. We will also have an end of year party in May to celebrate the students. Please only sign up if your child is able to fully commit to 1 class a week for the months of October-early May.

School Newspaper and Channel Club (Grades 3-5)
Have you ever wanted to be a reporter? To keep people informed on the important happenings in your community? Well, this is your chance! In this class, we’ll explore the ins and outs of both broadcast and print journalism. First, we’ll create a school newspaper, where we take on roles as editors and article writers to bring a high-quality publication to our fellow students. Then, we’ll create a video log of short, journalistic videos explaining what’s going on at our school. Along the way, we’ll learn things like storyboarding, simple video editing, and interviewing!

Baseball (Kindergarten-Grade 1)
In this program, students will have the opportunity to develop foundational baseball skills with an emphasis on teamwork, sportsmanship, fun, and exercise. The purpose of the program is to introduce students to the joy of baseball, while helping them to cultivate a love for team sports more broadly. Through a variety of fun-filled drills and scrimmages, students will practice throwing, fielding, hitting, and cheering for their teammates. Students interested in participating will need to bring their own baseball glove, but all other equipment will be provided.

Weave, Knit & Crochet Club
Unleash your creativity with Crafty Creations! In this fun after school enrichment class, students in grades 2-5 will explore the world of fiber arts, learning the basics of weaving, knitting, and crocheting. Dance (Grades 2-5)
If your child loves to dance and wants to explore various dance styles, this after-school enrichment program is the perfect fit. The curriculum introduces kids to the world of dance through a fun and creative experience. In this class, students will have the opportunity to discover different types of dance, from ballet and hip-hop to creative movement. They'll develop coordination, rhythm, and self-expression while having a blast. Our experienced instructors will guide them in learning basic dance techniques, all while promoting physical fitness and fostering a love for dance. No prior dance experience is needed, just bring your enthusiasm and energy!

Have you ever wanted to play the nationally-known game Dungeons and Dragons? Stretch your imagination telling stories with your friends, and build useful creative skills? What about play the game they do in Stranger Things? Well this is your chance! In this class, we'll be exploring collaborative storytelling through Dungeons and Dragons. Along the way, we'll develop social and emotional skills that will serve us well outside of the RPG.

Eco-Explorers Outdoor Gardening (Grades 2-5)
This outdoor class serves as a sanctuary for budding green thumbs and nature enthusiasts alike. The students will immerse themselves in a hands-on adventure, sowing seeds, fostering an appreciation for the environment, and witnessing their understanding of plants and nature flourish. The class promises to be a joyful space where kids can forge connections with the earth.

Group Piano Class (Grades 1-5)
The Group Piano class is a comprehensive class that builds a solid foundation for music learning through active group participation. Students learn everything they would in private lessons; the only difference is the environment and social aspect. Students have fun playing music games and building friendships, all while still learning the proper technique, artistry, and theory of a true pianist. Students will use a combination of standard method books while also using “Piano Maestro,” an interactive piano music application.

LEGO Brick Builders (Grades 2-5)
Do you love building and want to learn how to create your own Lego creations?! This course teaches students how to design and build their own Lego models, from simple structures to complex machines. They'll cultivate both their creativity and an engineering mindset. As a student, you'll get hands-on experience with a variety of Lego sets and learn techniques for building sturdy and intricate designs. This class is the perfect way to develop your problem-solving skills and unleash your creativity. No previous experience is necessary – just bring your love of Legos and a willingness to experiment!

Little Builders ( Kindergarten-Grade 2)
In this class, led by teacher Jessica Vigliotti, students will explore different building materials, design concepts, and real-world examples of structures in their community and around the world. Through games, group work, and individual exploration, the class will learn about scale, balance, and important building strategies. Children will then design and build their own structures using cardboard, recycled materials, and wood.

Lower School King Cares Club (Grades 1-5)
Partnering with organizations such as Long Ridge Post-Acute Care, Stamford Hospital, and Building One Community, students will have the opportunity to connect with others and learn more about the organizations. They will also participate in activities, such as arts and crafts projects, to share a smile with others. Students will have the opportunity to visit in person, for instance, with residents at Long Ridge Civita Care Center.

Private Music Lessons (Kindergarten-Grade 5)
In partnership with Project Music, King offers a private lesson program providing more individualized instruction to students. A music program, separate from the King Children’s Orchestra courses, is open to any student in Kindergarten-Grade 5 for an additional fee. The private lessons are taught by King and Project Music faculty.
Lessons Offered: King offers private lessons in brass, woodwinds, percussion, and violin/viola. Individual lessons are 30-minute sessions, and individual times are based on a teacher’s availability.
Lesson Fee: $65.00 per 30-minute session. Lessons will be billed monthly for the previous month taught.

Soccer (Kindergarten-Grade 5)
JC Athletics is excited to bring soccer clinics to King School as part of an after-school enrichment program! Long-time youth soccer coach, Jose Carvajal, will guide the athletes into developing fundamental skills including ball control, dribbling, passing, and shooting. Through the use of a curriculum involving exciting drills and mini-games, the players will be able to improve their technical abilities, coordination, and love for "the beautiful game". The goal is to create a fun, safe learning environment for all skill levels while also making sure all the players compete and look forward to the next session!

Students will learn skills that will boost their self-esteem for other sports. Along the way, they’ll practice teamwork, communication, and emotional self-regulation skills to help them everywhere, not just on the field or court. It’s sure to be a great time! Activities include an introduction to Gymnastics, Running, Yoga, Obstacle Courses, Tag, Baseball, Soccer, Ultimate Frisbee, Parkour, and more.

Building, Creating, and Problem-Solving Together!
Each week, students will collaborate to tackle fun engineering challenges—designing, testing, and improving their creations. From building bridges and towers to creating machines and gadgets, our King young engineers will discover how imagination and problem-solving go hand in hand. Come explore the world of engineering and see what you can create!

After-School Care Program
King is pleased to offer daily after-school care for children in PreK-Grade 5. Our staff interact with the children in a casual, fun environment after school from 2:45-5:30 p.m. This option is available for all five days, or specific days of your choice.
The Lower School After School Care for the 2024-25 school year is full.
We can still accept emergency drop-ins. If you would like to be placed on the waitlist, please email Karen Raidt at kraidt@kingschoolct.org, and she will reach out if a space becomes available.
Details
Facilities: Most activities take place within the lower school dining room, where children have access to books, magazines, computers, and cozy seating. Weather permitting, the program takes advantage of King’s playground.
Hours of Operation: Monday-Friday, 2:45-5:30 p.m., when school is in session. There is no after-school care on early dismissal days.
Policies:
- A late fee of $25.00 will be charged after 5:35 p.m. to defray the additional staffing costs.
- Your child will be automatically re-enrolled in the after-school care program each trimester unless you notify us otherwise.
- Without written permission, your child will not be released to anyone other than the person you designate. A photo ID will be required. For the safety of the children, this policy is strictly enforced.
- If an emergency occurs and you are not able to pick up your child on time, please call the After-School Care Program Coordinator at (203) 559-0686 or email Karen Raidt at kraidt@kingschoolct.org.
Fees for 2024-2025 School Year: The after-school care program fees are based on the number of school days and are billed on a trimester (three times per year) basis by the Business Office.

Drop-In Usage: If for any reason you cannot pick up your son/daughter by 3:00 p.m., the after-school care program will accommodate students on a drop-in basis for a fee of $65 for the day. This is billed daily.
