King is pleased to offer After School Enrichment classes to suit a variety of interests.
Registration for these classes is by email only. Please contact the faculty listed below directly with any questions or to register for a class. These opportunities are updated every few months, please check the weekly newsletter for announcements of new programs. Please note, enrichment classes take place when school is in session. There are no classes during school breaks. In the event of a snow day, classes will be re-scheduled for another date.

Little Builders (Kindergarten-Grade 2)
In this class, students will explore different building materials, design concepts, and real-world examples of structures in their community and around the world. Through games, group work, and individual exploration, the class will learn about scale, balance, and important building strategies. Children will then design and build their own structures using cardboard, recycled materials, and wood

Storybook Stars (Kindergarten-Grade 3)
Come join in the fun and create exciting characters all while bringing your favorite storybooks and poetry to life! Please join Ms Vaccaro for some indoor and outdoor theater games while the weather is nice and work on improvisation skills. Let's use nature's surroundings to help us build the perfect scene! Acting games, mime work, charades and creative story building and scenes will be explored each class. Sessions are designed to help build confidence and enhance the imagination. Get ready to act out!

Brass Jam (Kindergarten-Grade 2)
This class will explore the wonderful sounds of the Brass instruments. Students will learn about the brass instrument family(trumpet, trombone, French horn, baritone, Tuba) by playing introductory trombone and trumpets. These fun instruments are smaller versions of the original instruments, making them perfect for younger beginning students. Students will gain a foundation of how to play a brass instrument through fun playing exercises and the learning of simple tunes. The session will culminate with a mini performance for friends and family.

Lets Rock (Grades 3-5)
Learn to make music in the Rock Band tradition. Through six sessions, students will learn the basics of playing a rock beat on the drum-set, some simple chords on the guitar and a couple grooving bass lines on the bass. These mini lessons on each instrument will center around the same song, so at the end of the unit, students will be able to break off to different instruments and jam together. Students will use the innovative iconic notation method that uses picture diagrams to help them learn how to play each instrument. The session will culminate with a mini performance for friends and family. Come rock with us!

Volleyball (Kindergarten-Grade 2)
The King Volleyball Coaches are proud to present an after-school enrichment program to grow the sport. Coached by Kat Wells (Varsity Head Coach), these classes will introduce volleyball and competition to young athletes in a modified playing environment, where they can find success in such a complex sport. They will also focus on the technical skill and mini-games that will aid in the development of strong fundamentals and a faster growth and love of the game. A curriculum focusing on skill development, game strategy, and play will offer a great opportunity for current players to advance their skills and for new players to learn the sport and have fun!

Basketball (Grades 1-5)
This program is for all kids who are interested in playing basketball regardless of experience level. The program will be beneficial to kids at each stage of their basketball careers, whether they have been playing for a few years, or have never touched a basketball before. We will work on the basic fundamentals of the game, passing, shooting, and dribbling, as well as being a great teammate. For the duration of the program, you will learn the rules of the game, improve skill sets, and most importantly, how to be an integral part of a team. Coach Nate has extensive experience coaching and playing the game, and will create an environment that is comfortable for each and every kid. We look forward to seeing you out there!

Storytelling Through the Arts (Grades 3-5)
In this class, students will study the art of crafting stories and the various ways in which to tell them. The class will explore tales told through books, illustration, poetry, and song and discover the concepts which make a great story. Students will explore creating their own stories through various art forms including writing, painting, drawing, song, etc.

Lets Make Sculpture! (Grades 3-5)
Hands-On exploration of up-cycled materials will guide this class. Together with Katie Heimbold as facilitator, young artists will consider the many properties of sculpture, look at images of sculptures by diverse and inspiring artists, and visit the sculptures on King campus. Students will practice manipulating a variety of materials and connecting them (using different techniques) in order to create 3-Dimensional objects. We will also be rolling up our sleeves and getting our hands a little messy using plaster cloth to unify our designs. Mostly, we will have FUN and, over the six weeks, students will work towards building their own unique/cohesive sculpture to carry home for display!

Architectural Design (Grades 3-5)
Students will design and create an architectural piece made from recyclable items such as cardboards, paper towel rolls, etc. in order to both create art and maintain sustainability within our school community, and to understand that practicing sustainable skills can help improve our world. Through inquiry and active exploration, students will be able to problem solve and design all on their own.

Lower School King Cares Club (Grades 1-5)
Partnering with The Children’s Learning Centers, Building One Community, Long Ridge Post- Acute Care and Stamford Hospital students will have the opportunity to connect with others. Students will participate in activities, such as arts and crafts projects, as they "Share a Smile" with others.

After-School Care Program
King is pleased to offer daily after-school care for children in PreK-Grade 5. Our staff interact with the children in a casual, fun environment after school from 2:45-5:30 p.m. This option is available for all five days, or specific days of your choice.
Details
Facilities: Most activities take place within the LS dining room, where children have access to books, magazines, computers, and cozy seating. Weather permitting, the program takes advantage of King’s playground.
Hours of Operation: Monday-Friday, 2:45-5:30 p.m., when school is in session. There is no After School Care on early dismissal days.
Policies:
- A late fee of $25.00 will be charged after 5:35 p.m. to defray the additional staffing costs.
- Your child will be automatically re-enrolled in the After-School Care program each trimester unless you notify us otherwise.
- Without written permission, your child will not be released to anyone other than the person you designate. A photo ID will be required. For the safety of the children, this policy is strictly enforced.
- If an emergency occurs and you are not able to pick up your child on time, please call the After-School Care Program Coordinator at (203) 559-0686 or email Karen Raidt at kraidt@kingschoolct.org.
Fees for 2023-2024 School Year: The After School Care Program fees are based on the number of school days and are billed on a trimester (three times per year) basis by the Business Office.
- One Day: $425
- Two Days: $810
- Three Days: $1,190
- Four Days: $1,570
- Five Days: $1,960
Drop-In Usage: If for any reason you cannot pick up your son/daughter by 3:00 p.m., the After-School Care Program will accommodate students on a drop-in basis for a fee of $60.00 for the day. This is billed daily.
