After-School Programs
King offers a variety of programming for students that takes place after school.
This includes enrichment classes, which occur on a weekly basis over a few months, and after care, which is a daily after-school option. Learn more below.

Enrichment Classes
King is pleased to offer after-school enrichment classes to suit a variety of interests.
Registration for these classes is by email only. Please contact the faculty listed below directly with any questions or to register for a class. These opportunities are updated every few months, so please check the weekly newsletter for announcements of new programs. If you have any questions concerning after-school enrichment classes in general, please contact Shannon Evanko, Program Support Assistant at sevanko@kingschoolct.org or (203) 322-3496 Ext. 1310.
Please note, enrichment classes take place when school is in session. There are no classes during school breaks. In the event of a snow day, classes will be re-scheduled for another date.

Vikings Mathletes Math Team ( Grades 4-5)
This is a full-year enrichment program.
Students who join the Vikings Mathletes will have the opportunity to showcase their mathematical talents while preparing for Math Olympiad competitions. Under the leadership of Jenny Bruno and Rebecca Keogh, students will practice solving challenging problems, collaborate with teammates, and develop stronger mathematical thinking. This program requires a year-long commitment and includes a placement assessment before acceptance.

Fee: $175 per trimester ($525 for the year)

The Art of Penmanship (Grades 3–5)
Students will learn how to write in cursive and, most importantly, develop their own signature—a skill they will use throughout their lives. From cuneiform to modern script, handwriting has evolved throughout history. Students will strengthen their fine motor skills while learning proper letter formation and developing beautiful, legible handwriting.

Comedy Club with Ms. Sparks! (Grades 3–5)
Come learn and practice the fundamentals of comedy—with an emphasis on fun! Students will explore improvisation, comedy games, character work, collaborative skits, and comedy sketches while building confidence and creativity. Led by Groundlings graduate Allison Sparks, every class is designed to get students laughing and performing.

Little Builders (Grades K–2)
In Little Builders, students will plan, gather materials, and bring their creative ideas to life! Through hands-on exploration, students will discover design concepts such as scale, balance, and structural stability while experimenting with wood, cardboard, and recycled materials. Children will develop problem-solving skills, creativity, and confidence as they design and construct their own unique creations.

Lower School King Cares Club (Grades 1–5)
Partnering with organizations such as Kids in Crisis, The Baking Happiness Co., Building One Community, Long Ridge Post-Acute Care, and The Children's Learning Centers, students will connect with others through service projects and acts of kindness. Activities include arts and crafts, community outreach, and opportunities to visit local organizations while sharing smiles with others.

Private Music Lessons (Grades K–12)
In partnership with Project Music, King School offers individualized private music lessons for students in Kindergarten through Grade 12. Lessons are available in brass, woodwinds, and strings and are taught by King and Project Music faculty. Lesson times are scheduled individually based on teacher availability.

Robotics (Grades 3–5)
Explore the world of robotics using Ozobot and Dash robots—no prior experience required! Students will learn coding concepts, solve puzzles, and complete hands-on engineering challenges in a fun, collaborative environment.

Select Chorus (Grades 3–5)
Calling all singers! Students will learn healthy vocal technique while singing rounds, partner songs, and multi-part harmonies. Throughout the session, students will develop balance, blend, intonation, and musical artistry before performing at the Winter Concert in December.

Soccer (Grades K–5)
JC Athletics is excited to bring soccer clinics to King School! Coach Jose Carvajal will help players develop ball control, dribbling, passing, and shooting skills through engaging drills and mini-games. The program emphasizes skill development, teamwork, confidence, and a love of the game in a fun and supportive environment.

Stop Motion (Grades 3–5)
Students will learn how to create stop-motion movies using a stop-motion app and a variety of materials including clay, LEGO bricks, art supplies, and natural objects. Students will design, animate, and produce their own creative mini-movies.

StoryCraft Studio (Grades K–2)
Join us for a creative and engaging class where literature meets art! Each session begins with an inspiring story before students create a hands-on art project using fabric, clay, paint, and other materials. Young artists will express their creativity while bringing stories to life through art.

Twist & Tangles: Advanced (Grades 3–5)
Students will take a deeper dive into the world of fiber arts by exploring weaving, basketry, felting, sewing, and more. They'll build advanced skills while designing and creating projects using a variety of techniques and materials.

Twist & Tangles: Beginners (Grades K–2)
Students will dive into the colorful world of weaving and textile art by creating their own loom, selecting materials, and crafting a unique bag or pillow. Along the way, they'll learn to make I-cords with a spool knitter and discover how to add decorative details to their creations.

After-School Care Program
King is pleased to offer daily after-school care for children in PreK-Grade 5. Our staff interact with the children in a casual, fun environment after school from 2:55-5:30 p.m. This option is available for all five days, or specific days of your choice.
We can accept emergency drop-ins. Please email Karen Raidt at kraidt@kingschoolct.org, and she will reach out if space is available.

Facilities: Most activities take place within the lower school dining room, where children have access to books, magazines, computers, and cozy seating. Weather permitting, the program takes advantage of King’s playground.
Hours of Operation: Monday-Friday, 2:55-5:30 p.m., when school is in session. There is no after-school care on early dismissal days.
Policies:
- A late fee of $25.00 will be charged after 5:35 p.m. to defray the additional staffing costs.
- Your child will be automatically re-enrolled in the after-school care program each trimester unless you notify us otherwise.
- Without written permission, your child will not be released to anyone other than the person you designate. A photo ID will be required. For the safety of the children, this policy is strictly enforced.
- If an emergency occurs and you are not able to pick up your child on time, please call the After-School Care Program Coordinator at (203) 559-0686 or email Karen Raidt at kraidt@kingschoolct.org.
Fees for 2026-2027 School Year: The after-school care program fees are based on the number of school days and are billed on a trimester (three times per year) basis by the Business Office.
- One Day: $510
- Two Days: $970
- Three Days: $1,425
- Four Days: $1,830
- Five Days: $2,245
Drop-In Usage: If for any reason you cannot pick up your child by 3:00 p.m., the after-school care program will accommodate students on a drop-in basis for a fee of $70 for the day. This is billed daily.
