Vikings Show Up for Homecoming!
Saturday of Homecoming weekend showed the true spirit and strength of King School! The Vikings excelled on the fields, courts, and courses, and the community showed up to support our athletes, share in the fun and excitement of everything going on around campus, and to build friendships and connections across the generations, from our youngest students to our oldest alumni.
With eight programs in action on Saturday, it remains one of the busiest and most exciting days of the year! Here are the results from Saturday:
- King Cross Country welcomed runners from St. Luke’s, Capital Prep Harbor, and Sacred Heart Greenwich to take part in the annual Homecoming race! The top finisher from King was Finn Russell ’28.
- JV Blue Girls Volleyball 1-2 vs Cardinal Kung
- Varsity Boys Soccer 1-0 vs Harvey
- JV Red Girls Volleyball 3-0 vs St. Luke’s
- Varsity Girls Soccer 8-1 vs Harvey
- Varsity Girls Volleyball 3-0 vs Storm King
- Field Hockey 8-0 vs Hamden Hall
- Varsity Football 14-22 vs RCDS as Seniors Jackson Andrews ’26, Sam Dulski ’26, and Henry Sklar were celebrated!
Cross Country
Our Viking runners continue to stack bright moments, capped by a well‑attended Homecoming meet. Senior captain Joaquin‑Antonio Arteta ’26 headlined the day, clocking his best time of the season and setting the tone for a deepening squad.
Quick rewind: The roster is stronger this fall, with four new additions joining a group that returned everyone from last year: Sophomore Olivia Breiner ’28, Freshman John McCarthy ’29, Junior Jake Paterno ’27, and Senior Cy Noren ’26 — all four have already impacted early results.
Leaders & bests: Paterno has finished first for King in two meets (including one FAA race), while Noren has posted one second‑place and two third‑place finishes for King. Sophomore Finn Russell led the Vikings in the most recent FAA race with a season‑best 22:42.3; his career best remains 19:54.2 from last year’s FAA Championship. Breiner also impressed at Brunswick, notching her season best.
The steady, in‑season improvement across the roster has the coaches excited for the next stretch. Go Vikings!
Girls Volleyball
The JV Blue and JV Red teams opened up play Saturday morning, with Blue taking on Cardinal Kung and Red taking on St. Luke’s. Against a tough and deep Cardinal Kung squad, JV Blue came up just short in the first set, fell in the second set, and then came back to win the third set. The group showed true resilience against a talented opponent and will look to bounce back in their next match. JV Red overwhelmed visiting St. Luke’s, and used strong play at the net and in the back row to take it to the Storm, on the way to the 3-0 sweep.
Varsity Volleyball then took the court in the final match of the day, hosting Storm King. The undefeated Vikings rolled once again to a 3-0 win and moved to 6-0 on the season! King has carried last year’s poise into this season with a balanced attack, clean serve‑receive, and disciplined blocking. Just as important, the depth is real: different players keep stepping in with momentum‑swinging runs, showing this group can win in more than one way.
Home crowds have been awesome, which was no different on Homecoming, and the team is feeding off that energy. With the target on their backs, the Vikings have answered every challenge so far — closing tight sets, staying composed in long rallies, and stacking statement wins that remind everyone who holds the crown.
Next up: a road test at RCDS today as the Vikings look to keep the streak alive and defend their title with another convincing performance.
Varsity Boys Soccer
The Boys Varsity program delivered a tremendous Homecoming showcase, edging Harvey School 1–0 in a true thriller. The fans showed up, and the boys returned the favor with end‑to‑end action and composed play in big moments.
Junior Ignacio Rodrigues ’27 broke the deadlock with a crafty run and clinical finish off a Dylan Martin ’28 assist. From there, the group’s defensive organization and unity secured the clean sheet and the win.
Next up is a tough league test at RCDS this Saturday, where the Vikings aim to make it three straight in conference. Keep the blue wave rolling!
Varsity Girls Soccer
The Vikings showed up in force for Homecoming 2025, and Girls Soccer delivered. After a slow start, the team has ripped off four straight wins, including conference victories over St. Luke’s and Holy Child. The attack is humming — Carolyn Joo ’28 and Emma Cordulack ’27 led the scoring — and the back line has tightened up, allowing just two goals in the last two games. Over their last four contests, the Vikings have outscored opponents 22–5.
Homecoming itself brought a big boost: a lively win over Harvey with seniors Greta Sunshine ’26 and Kyleigh Luther ’26 each netting two goals in front of a packed crowd. The energy around the program is palpable, and the team looks every bit like a contender as we hit the midpoint of conference play.
Next up is a tough league test at RCDS this Saturday, where the Vikings aim to make it three straight in conference.
Varsity Field Hockey
Off to a 5–3 start, Field Hockey is trending in the right direction. The varsity group has stacked confident, multi‑goal wins and is building chemistry each week, while the JV side celebrated its first victory — a great sign for program depth.
Both goalies have been sharp, anchoring a defense that lets the attack take creative risks. With key players flashing real talent and the group clicking in transition, the Vikings are focused on carrying this momentum into the home stretch — and into the postseason.
The Vikings dominated on both ends of the field on Saturday, as they shut out Hamden Hall. A great full-team performance saw all players step up to help lead the way, and left no doubt about the outcome on the field! Congratulations on the Homecoming win and continued growth and success this season!
Varsity Football and Homecoming
This season, the Vikings are led by captains Jackson Andrews ’26, Phoenix Diurno ’27, Sam Dulski ’26, and Alex Moskowitz ’27. After graduating 12 seniors last year, the team features many new faces on both sides of the ball. Despite the turnover, the Vikings have come together quickly, with strong leadership and standout performances across the roster.
The offense is powered by a talented young core, including sophomore quarterback Luke Cottrell, sophomore running back Myles Gadson, and junior wide receiver Phoenix Diurno. Their chemistry and playmaking ability have provided a spark throughout the season.
On defense, junior captain Alex anchors the defensive line, while senior captain Jackson leads the secondary from the safety position. Both have been instrumental in setting the tone and intensity for the Vikings defense.
Homecoming Recap
Homecoming featured a thrilling battle against Rye Country Day. The Vikings scored right before halftime, when Myles broke free for a 38-yard touchdown run. In the second half, Jackson came up with a key interception, setting the stage for a rushing touchdown by Alex. Alex was a force on both sides of the ball, also recording two sacks in a dominant defensive performance.
Prior to the game, the Vikings honored their three seniors: Jackson Andrews, Sam Dulski, and Henry Sklar. Their leadership, dedication, and contributions to the program have been invaluable.
