From Record Books to National Stages: A Big Week for Vikings Hoops
Historic Night for King Girls Basketball
King School Athletics witnessed a truly historic performance this week as Carolyn Joo ’28 delivered a record-breaking 50-point game in a dominant 66–39 victory over Masters.
Carolyn was unstoppable from start to finish, knocking down an incredible 11 three-pointers and showcasing elite scoring ability from all areas of the floor. Her 50 points set a new King School single-game scoring record, surpassing the previous mark of 41 points, held by the school’s all-time leading scorer, Briana Brown ’10.
Already this season, the sophomore athlete has posted 30, 40, and now 50-point performances, establishing herself as one of the most dynamic offensive players in the region and a cornerstone of the Vikings' success.
“She just makes it look effortless. It is just so much fun to watch.” said Assistant Coach Mike Lasky praising Carolyn’s impact beyond the box score. “The way she controls the flow of the game on both sides of the floor is something special.”
This unforgettable night is not just a milestone it’s a glimpse of what promises to be a very special season for King Girls Basketball.
The Vikings hit the road this weekend to play in the 63rd annual Kingswood Invitational Tournament and will open up against the tournament host, Kingswood-Oxford School at 7 p.m. on Friday.
Boys Varsity Basketball: Battled-Tested and Building
King Varsity Boys Basketball has opened the season against one of the most demanding schedules in program history and currently sits at 2–5, with the record underscored by program-defining road victories over AA Mount Saint Charles and Class B Pomfret, both firsts in King Basketball history.
The schedule was intentionally constructed to include three AA opponents, accelerating the group’s development and preparing the team for league play. While consistency is still being built, the team has fully embraced the challenge and continues to demonstrate measurable growth on both ends of the floor.
This weekend, the Vikings will compete at the BasketBull Showcase at the University of Saint Joseph’s in West Hartford, taking on nationally ranked opponents Winchendon and St. Thomas More School Varsity, both recognized as two of the top-50 prep programs in the country.
Looking ahead, King will take the national stage on January 18, squaring off against Kingswood-Oxford School in a highly anticipated showcase game at TD Garden in Boston. Please see game details and ticket information for this special event are available in the Keep Up With King newsletter. These high-level matchups will test the team’s habits, physicality, and execution, and this challenging stretch is expected to position the Vikings well as they head into the second half of the season and the majority of FAA league play.
