Lower School Students Elect Leaders for 2025–2026
Excitement filled every corner of the Lower School this week, with campaign posters lining hallways and speeches delivered to captive audiences, as students in Grades 4 and 5 campaigned for coveted positions on the Lower School Student Council.
Ballots were cast by students in Kindergarten through Grade 5 following an assembly on Thursday, October 16. When the votes were tallied, the results reflected candidates' confidence, promises of collaboration, and community pride.
Congratulations to this year’s President Becca Sharon ’33, Vice President Harrison Burke ’33, Secretaries Olivia Harris ’33 and Alex Mitchell ’33, and Outreach Ambassador Cece Bellmare ’33. Grade 4 representatives Hampton Young ’34 and Arya Mehrotra ’34 will round out the council.
“I was so impressed with this year’s candidates’ commitment to showing up, trying their best, and being true to who they are,” said lower school art teacher and student council advisor Alexa Orndahl. “Each of them reminded us that leadership begins with kindness, effort, authenticity, and lifting others along the way."
This year’s election season brought plenty of imagination and school spirit. During presentations, candidates urged peers to vote for them, citing their years of experience in the Lower School, personal qualities, and dreams for the future. While many students focused on broad initiatives, such as increasing recess time and adding frequent dessert options at lunch, others pursued more nuanced efforts, including creating a student lounge, hosting a talent show, and holding monthly classroom competitions.
“I’ve been at King since PreK,” said presidential candidate Hugo Prince ’33. “I’ve known most of you since we were playing with blocks with Ms. Agro, learning ABCs with Mrs. Rachinsky Wood and Mrs. Decker, and cheering on the Bills with Mrs. Eagleton!”
“As your Fourth Grade Representative, I will make sure I listen to your ideas, welcome people into the community, and keep our virtues first,” said Cordeila Beverly ’34. “Let's work together to create great assemblies, community activities, and show up like the Vikings we are!”
“Every one of you has something valuable to say, and I want to ensure that every voice is heard,” said Vivian Ding ’33, campaigning for Vice President.
Throughout the year, the elected council members will collaborate to plan assemblies, community service projects, dress-down days, and special lunches. Their work will culminate in the Lower School Moving Up Ceremony, where they will reflect on their experiences and share insights with the King community.
Congratulations to all the students who ran for office — and special thanks to performing arts teacher Amy Darnton, who worked with the students on their presentation skills, and Orndahl for inspiring and guiding King’s youngest leaders as they take on this exciting new chapter of service and leadership.
