King Alumni Making Their Mark

King Alumni Making Their Mark

Homecoming and Alumni Weekend kicks off on Friday, September 26, and with it comes a chance to celebrate the Viking spirit that lasts well beyond graduation. This week’s athletic update shines a spotlight on three alumni whose recent accomplishments remind us why Homecoming matters. Brandon Chan ’25 represented Team China on the world lacrosse stage this summer. Anya Anderson ’25 is now competing in Division I track and field at Brown University. And Josh Figueroa ’19 has returned to King as an assistant coach. Their stories bring the season full circle, connecting past, present, and future Vikings.

Brandon Chan ’25 - Team China U20, King Lacrosse, Middlebury College Lacrosse ’29

During his time at King, Chan spent four years as a dominant presence for King Lacrosse and Ice Hockey. A vital part of the program's success, Chan helped the Vikings capture the FAA Championship and the New England McCoy Cup as a junior, then led the team to another McCoy Cup as a senior captain. “He was a quiet leader,” said Coach Hill, “the kid everyone wants on their team.”

This summer, he took his skills to Jeju Island, South Korea, representing Team China at the U20 World Lacrosse Championship. Just two months after graduation, Chan traveled to Shanghai for Team China’s training camp. Earning one of only four roster spots available to non-passport holders, he embraced the challenge with determination. His eligibility came through his grandparents, both born in China, who also served as his greatest inspiration throughout the tournament.

On the world stage, Chan netted four goals and added four assists, impacting both ends of the field, scooping ground balls, creating chances, and causing turnovers. Representing Team China, he said, “was a true honor. It was a great experience connecting with my cultures and kids with different backgrounds.”

Next up: the NCAA. Chan will continue his lacrosse career at Middlebury College, playing for the Panthers in the very competitive NESCAC conference. As for King Lacrosse, the Vikings enter the season aiming to defend the McCoy Cup and complete the three-peat—this time without Brandon. “His shoes are big ones to fill,” Coach Hill said, “but we’re confident in the talent this group has.”

Anya Anderson ’25 - King Track and Field, Brown University Track and Field ’9, Elite Ninja Warrior

Anderson, King’s most accomplished and decorated track athlete, was recently featured on the cover of Stamford Magazine!

After concluding her storied high school track and field career in the spring of 2025, she is continuing her education as a Division I athlete in the Ivy League at Brown University. As one of the most decorated athletes in King’s history, she has an incredible record of elite competitive success all the way up to the national level. Here are some of her most impressive accomplishments: eight-time FAA champion, six-time New England champion, 10-time All-FAA and 13-time All-New England selection, who holds seven school records and personal bests of 12.04s (100m), 24.34s (200m), and 18’2.25” (Long Jump). She also finished 32nd in the country in the 200m and 58th in the country in the 100m at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals in 2025 and was the top finisher from Connecticut in both events.

In the September/October 2025 issue on newsstands now, Stamford Magazine hailed Anderson for her athletic and academic accomplishments, writing:

“A nationally ranked track and field athlete and elite Ninja Warrior competitor, Anderson pairs fearless competition with service. On (King’s) campus, she helped lead Future Medical Professionals and Girls Advancing in STEM, mentored younger girls, and worked on endangered-frog conservation. She’s now attending Brown University, training for American Ninja Warrior, and aiming for a career in emergency medicine—someone who “brings calm and confidence when things feel out of control.”

Josh Figueroa ’19 - Varsity Boys Soccer Assistant Coach

We’re excited to welcome back former Viking standout soccer player Figueroa, who went on to a successful career at Manhattanville College, as an assistant coach with Varsity Boys Soccer this fall. Coach Figueroa has stepped right into an important role on the sidelines, supporting training sessions, tactical prep, and player development, and helped the Vikings secure their first win of the season on Tuesday, with a thrilling 1-0 victory over Wooster School! Great to have another alum back on campus again!

These three Vikings show the lasting impact of King Athletics. Their achievements highlight the discipline and character that define a Viking. As Homecoming and Alumni Weekend approaches, their stories serve as a reminder of the bonds that connect the King community across generations, and the pride that continues to grow with every Viking who carries the King spirit forward.
