Vikings Keep Rolling as Senior Athletes Are Celebrated
Varsity Volleyball has remained atop the standings so far this fall, continuing their dominance on the court, and the JV teams have also been making waves with some impressive comebacks! Several fall teams have celebrated their senior athletes and families. Finally, two Vikings will head to Boston this weekend to represent King at the Head of the Charles Regatta, the largest three-day regatta in the world.
Varsity Volleyball Remains Perfect Midway Through Season
The King Varsity Volleyball team continues its dominant run, reaching the midpoint of the season. This young 2025 squad is coming off a well-earned sweep 3-0 of undefeated FAA opponent Greens Farms Academy on October 10, and will face off with league rival Greenwich Academy this afternoon at the annual Dig Pink game following today’s all-school Pink Out! After graduating five seniors last year, the team — featuring seven new members — has stepped up to carry on King Volleyball’s legacy of excellence. Having dropped only one set all season to Sacred Heart Greenwich in September, the Vikings’ strong chemistry and culture on and off the court have been key to their success.
The annual Dig Pink match today is run in partnership with King Cares and raises money for the Bennett Cancer Center through concession sales, combining great volleyball with an even greater cause. We look forward to seeing the King community Show Up for this tremendous event!
JV Red Volleyball Stages Incredible Comeback
On Tuesday, October 14, the King JV Red Volleyball team delivered one of the most thrilling wins of the season, rallying from a 14-1 deficit in the second set to secure a 29-27 victory over Rye Country Day School!
The Vikings’ comeback reflected remarkable resilience, teamwork, and composure under pressure, a true testament to their determination and growth. It was a proud moment for both the players and coaches, capturing the Viking spirit of perseverance and pride. The victory also marked a strong run for the Vikings, as they celebrated an impressive road win over Greens Farms Academy on Friday, October 10.
Crew and Boys Soccer Celebrate Senior Days
On Wednesday, October 15, King Crew celebrated its one senior, Michael Failla, with a ceremony after practice at RowAmerica Greenwich. Michael has been a steadfast Viking in the program, rowing every season, and a tremendous role model and leader for the younger generation of Vikings.
Michael, along with Izzy McDonald ’27, will head to Boston this weekend to represent King at the Head of the Charles Regatta (HOCR). The HOCR is the largest three-day regatta in the world and attracts more than 11,000 rowers each year. Good luck to Michael and Izzy as they take to the Charles River on Sunday for their races! The action can be followed on the official HOCR website.
On Saturday, October 11, the King Varsity Soccer team also celebrated its seniors, Nate Barry, Oliver Donnelly, Greg Martin, Dillon Maltese, Thomas Matzelle, Matteus Rodrigues, and Vito Scutari, along with their families, during a heartfelt Senior Day ceremony before their game on the Segalas Family South Turf.
Players, families, and fans came together to honor this outstanding group for their years of commitment, leadership, and passion for the Vikings soccer program. Each senior has made a lasting impact on and off the field, contributing to the development of a strong and spirited team culture.
Following the celebration, the Vikings battled Masters School in a competitive matchup that ended in a narrow 2-1 defeat. Despite the result, the team showed tremendous grit and unity, qualities that have defined this senior class throughout their time at King.
The entire King community extends its deepest gratitude to these senior athletes for their dedication and exemplary leadership. Once a Viking, always a Viking!
