A Week of Growth for Viking Basketball
This past week was a true snapshot of what King Athletics is all about: resilience, growth, and rising to the moment. Both the Girls and Boys Varsity Basketball teams faced demanding tests on the road against strong league opponents and responded with poise and standout performances. From hard-earned lessons to momentum-building wins, the Vikings continue to show their commitment to improvement and excellence as the season moves forward.
Girls Varsity Basketball
The Girls Varsity Basketball team continued to show growth and resilience this week as they navigated a demanding, battle-testing stretch of the season. Coming off a hard-fought, tightly contested loss to RCDS on Tuesday, the Vikings responded exactly the way strong teams do, with focus, intensity, and a complete team performance in an impressive win over FAA opponent Holy Child.
From the opening tip, King set the tone on both ends of the floor, combining disciplined defense with unselfish offense. Carolyn Joo ’28 led the charge with a dominant performance, finishing with a game-high 32 points and providing steady leadership throughout the contest. She was supported by a balanced scoring effort that highlighted the team’s depth and versatility, a key factor in the win.
Ava Pufko ’28 added 12 points, consistently attacking the basket and creating opportunities. Sophia Lasky ’26 contributed 6 points, with two 3-pointers, including a big quarter bucket, and Anna Melton ’27 added 5, also hitting a huge 3-pointer in the fourth quarter, as multiple players stepped up and made timely plays. Additional scoring came from Kate Moskowitz ’29, Emma Lange ’27, and CT Thomson ’28, rounding out an impressive 61-56 victory, underscoring the group’s collective commitment and chemistry.
With momentum on their side, the Vikings now turn their attention to Saturday’s matchup against Canterbury. The upcoming game is another important test as the team continues to grow, compete, and prepare for the challenges ahead.
Boys Varsity Basketball
King Varsity Boys Basketball had an unforgettable opportunity last weekend, competing at TD Garden in Boston on Sunday as one of just 16 teams in the country selected for the nationally recognized Andrew James Lawson Foundation Invitational. Playing on such an iconic stage, and in front of a tremendous showing of King alumni, families, and supporters, created an electric atmosphere and a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the program.
Although the Vikings came up short against a very talented Kingswood Oxford team, King battled and competed for the majority of the game, displaying toughness and composure against elite competition. The experience served as a valuable test and an important measuring stick for New England play.
King bounced back with a dominant and controlled performance against St. Luke’s on Wednesday. From the opening tip, the Vikings set the tone on both ends of the floor, jumping out to an 11-2 run and holding St. Luke’s to just 57 points, while doing an excellent job limiting their key players well below their season averages.
Offensively, King showcased a balanced and efficient scoring attack, led by Ryan Trimboli ’28, who finished with 21 points, including four three-pointers. He was followed by Jonovan Bracey ’26 (16 points), AJ Trimboli ’26 (15 points), and Julian Dent ’26 (14 points), as multiple players made key contributions throughout the night. The 73-57 victory moved King to 3-1 in FAA play, as the Vikings now turn their focus to a strong Berkshire squad this Saturday, looking to carry the momentum forward.
