Viking Athletes in Action
King athletes are making their mark on campus and beyond. From alumni excelling at the collegiate level to current teams dominating the court and field, this week’s highlights show the power of skill, teamwork, and Viking spirit. Vivi Mansfield ‘25 is off to an impressive start at Johnson & Wales, our volleyball and field hockey teams are racking up standout wins, and families have opportunities to connect with experts on equity, leadership, and supporting student-athlete success.
Alumni Spotlight: Vivi Mansfield ‘25 Shines at the Next Level
Former King School volleyball standout Vivi Mansfield has been named the Conference of New England (CNE) Women’s Volleyball Rookie of the Week! Now a freshman at Johnson & Wales University, Vivi is already turning heads in collegiate volleyball circles.
During her first weeks in the program, Vivi has contributed in a big way to the Wildcats. Highlights include:
- Eight kills, five digs, and three aces in JWU’s 3-0 win over Westfield State.
- Seven kills and strong defensive play in a five-set win against SUNY Geneseo.
These performances show not only her skill but also her ability to step into a new environment and immediately make a difference. It’s rare for a first-year player to have such a steady presence across all facets of the game, and the CNE recognized that by awarding her this prestigious honor.
Before making her mark at JWU, Vivi built her reputation right here at King School, where she was a cornerstone of our volleyball program. She consistently demonstrated leadership, resilience, and the kind of work ethic that set the tone for her teammates.
At King, Vivi was known not only for her eye-opening power and clutch performances, but also for her spirit — she encouraged younger players, stayed late after practice, and embodied the true Viking mentality of commitment and teamwork. Her impact was felt both on and off the court, and she left a lasting legacy that today’s players still look up to.
Her recognition this week reminds our current student-athletes that hard work, focus, and passion open doors. Vivi’s journey from our gym in Stamford to a collegiate court in Providence shows what’s possible when Vikings put their heart into the game.
All Gas, No Brakes — Vikings Sweep GCDS
The defending FAA and NEPSAC Girls Volleyball champion Vikings powered through Greenwich Country Day School (GCDS) with a decisive 3–0 victory, proving once again that championship teams are built on every player’s effort. From relentless defense to fearless swings at the net, the Vikings played with intensity and unity from start to finish.
What made the win special wasn’t just the sweep — it was the way the team leaned on each other, celebrated every point, and kept the energy high. This was a true team win, and a clear reminder that the champs are still setting the standard.
Varsity Field Hockey off to a Hot Start!
Varsity Field Hockey has kicked off the season with impressive momentum, securing two dominant wins this week over GCDS and Holy Child. The team opened with a commanding 4–1 victory against GCDS on Tuesday, fueled by an explosive offense and solid defense. Riley Lynch ’28, Penny Prince ’29, and Jordyn Ennis ’26 (2) led the scoring charge, capitalizing on precise passing and aggressive play in the circle. The defense played a critical role, consistently breaking down GCDS attacks and clearing the ball under pressure. Building on that strong win, the team kept the energy high in their next game on Thursday, defeating Holy Child 5–1. Mackenzie Moreau ’28 opened the scoring with a powerful shot, followed by goals from Amelia Bley ’26, Riley O’Neil ’28, and two more from the unstoppable Jordyn Ennis ’26. Midfield transitions were crisp and efficient, and the team’s communication and chemistry were amazing throughout the game. With these two wins under their belt, the team is showing great promise for the rest of the season. The players are hungry for more and ready to take on their upcoming opponents with the same intensity and focus.
Beyond the Game: Leadership, Legacy, and Belonging
King School is looking forward to welcoming David Watts, educator, consultant, student-athlete advocate, and former Division 1 football player, for a three-day series of events on athletics, equity, leadership, and community.
