Boys Ice Hockey Stuns Rye Country Day School in 8-6 Thriller!

The King Varsity Ice Hockey Team earned important points in the FAA standings with a huge win over Rye Country Day School on Friday night. An incredible performance by our first line powered the offense, combining for five goals. Charlie Cahill ’29 led the way with a hat trick, while Jake Oertel ’28 added two more. Mason Bugenhagen ’29 also played a key role in the attack, recording four assists.

The defensive effort was equally strong. John Lewis ’29 was outstanding in net, stopping 23 shots, while Dylan Oertel ’28 delivered several big hits to keep RCDS out of the zone. Thomas Matzelle ’26 capped off the night by scoring his second goal of the game, an empty netter for the team’s eighth goal to seal the 8-6 victory!

The Vikings are right back on the ice tonight in a Winter Showcase match-up with Kingswood-Oxford at 7:30 p.m. at Stamford Twin Rinks. Free hot chocolate and cookies for all in attendance!

Winter Athletic Showcase

Friday, January 30, and Saturday, January 31

In conjunction with Spirit Week, King Athletics and Viking Pride are excited to host the King Winter Athletic Showcase. This is a two-day weekend event to celebrate our winter athletes and programs. This year’s Showcase will feature action from three of our winter teams as well as food (free for all winter athletes, faculty, and staff members), prizes, spirit swag, and Spirit Week activities for all divisions! Please come out and cheer on the Vikings at these exciting games:

Stamford Twin Rinks | Friday, January 30

  • 7:30 p.m. - Boys Varsity Ice Hockey vs. Kingswood Oxford School
    • Purple-Out Game Night with Free Hot Chocolate and Cookies! Shoot-out for prizes in between periods!
  • Upper School Gym | Saturday, January 31 
    • 1:00 p.m. - Varsity Girls Basketball vs. Williams School
    • 4:00 p.m. - Varsity Boys Basketball vs. Fieldston School
    • Cowabunga Food Truck will be available for all, and there will be shoot-outs for prizes at both games, along with a Project Music concession stand and pep band!

National Girls & Women in Sports Day Celebrations

Wednesday, February 4, is National Girls & Women in Sports Day! Next week, King will commemorate this annual celebration that inspires girls and women to play, be active, and realize their full power. The confidence, strength, and character gained through sports participation are the very tools girls and women need to become strong leaders in sports and life.
