    The Varsity Girls Volleyball team continued its remarkable undefeated season this week with a hard-fought road victory against Deerfield Academy, extending its winning streak to 50 consecutive matches — a historic run for the program. The team demonstrated resilience after a slow start, securing another key win that keeps them leading both league and regional standings as the regular season nears its conclusion. Meanwhile, the Varsity Field Hockey team has been equally dominant, combining strong defense with an explosive offense to secure multiple decisive victories, positioning itself among the top contenders in its league and regional rankings as it enters a crucial stretch of the season.

    Middle school string musicians filled the Performing Arts Center dance studio with lively performances during their open rehearsals, giving families an inside look at the progress taking place ahead of upcoming concerts.     Pumpkin Math Adds Up to Hands-On Learning and Fall Fun

    Grade 1 students celebrated the culmination of their annual Pumpkin Math unit by transforming their classrooms into lively labs of exploration. The interdisciplinary project blended math, literacy, and social-emotional learning as students measured, weighed, and described their pumpkins before carving them with help from parent volunteers. From estimating weight and grouping seeds by tens to reading fall-themed stories and discussing King’s virtues, the unit offered a perfect balance of inquiry, creativity, and collaboration — topped off with plenty of gooey, slimy fun!

    King Debate Wins October Tournament

    Congratulations to Steven Blanco ’25 and Ryan Jakubowski ’25, who led the King Debate Team to an undefeated 5-0 record at the October Connecticut Debate Association tournament. Competing against nearly 30 schools and more than 80 competitors in the varsity bracket, the outstanding win was secured in the final round against host school Joel Barlow High School. The team fielded 12 debaters across novice and varsity divisions, highlighting the team’s growth, skill, and commitment to excellence in competitive debate.

    Exploring Francophone Culture Through Cuisine

    Students in an upper school French honors class recently completed an immersive exploration of the eating habits of French-speaking communities worldwide. By delving into the geography, natural resources, and traditional cuisines of regions such as Algeria, Martinique, Tunisia, the Ivory Coast, and Morocco, students discovered how food reflects the values, traditions, and daily lives of diverse cultures. Through their research and French-language presentations, they not only deepened their understanding of global diversity but also developed the curiosity, empathy, and open-mindedness essential to building a true global mindset.

Several fall teams have celebrated their senior athletes and families. Finally, two Vikings will head to Boston this weekend to represent King at the Head of the Charles Regatta, the largest three-day regatta in the world.

    David Watts Inspires King Community to “Walk On” With Purpose and Perseverance

    During a three-day visit to King School, educator, consultant, and former Division I football player David Watts inspired students, faculty, coaches, and parents through a series of presentations on leadership, equity, and community. Drawing from his own journey as a walk-on athlete at UC Berkeley, Watts emphasized the power of perseverance, self-awareness, and the “walk-on mindset,” a commitment to hard work and resilience in pursuit of personal and collective goals. His “Equity Toolkit” framework encouraged the King community to strengthen relationships and foster inclusion both on and off the field. Through student assemblies, coach workshops, and parent sessions, Watts’ message, supported by Athletics and DEIB leaders, reinforced King’s commitment to building an athletic culture rooted in empathy, equity, and shared purpose.

    King’s Frog Project Begins Expansion Into Zoos Across the U.S.

    King’s Frog Conservation Project has leapt from a single classroom vivarium to a national stage, now partnering with accredited zoos across the country. This past summer, the project delivered its first student-built vivarium and frogs to Jenkinson’s Aquarium in New Jersey, with plans underway for additional deliveries to zoos across the country. King students are demonstrating how curiosity, engineering, and conservation can make a global impact.

    Jonovan Bracey '26 Combines History and Art Through Independent Study

    Jonovan Bracey’s ’26 new installation, “Reflections on the Vietnam War,” on display in the Upper School, invites viewers to explore the conflict through the eyes of a soldier and a protesting veteran. Developed during an independent study last spring, the mixed-media work uses a central mirror to draw the audience into the scene, encouraging reflection on the complex legacy of one of America’s most divisive wars.
