Music

In the Lower School, the performing arts is an active, multicultural program that enables all children to experience success in creating and performing music in all strands of the program, leading them to be lifelong music makers. Children in Prekindergarten through Grade 5 experience a variety of learning activities in moving, speaking, singing, listening, playing, reading, creating/improvising, and evaluating. All Grade 5 students participate in the grade musical annually. 

In the Middle School, every Grade 6 and 7 student participates in either instrumental music (band or strings) or choir, which are major courses. For Grade 8, students choose their arts major and have a variety of performing arts choices, including choir, band, dance, theater, and strings. The Middle School puts on a play in the fall, and a musical in the spring, which students can choose to be involved in.

In the Upper School, the performing arts faculty engages students in the use of their voices, hands, and/or bodies to express themselves and their ideas in the disciplines of vocal music, instrumental music, theater, and dance. Experiences in this program cultivate the development of intuition, reasoning, imagination, and self-confidence in ways and at a level not found in the traditional classroom setting. Courses are offered in drama, choir, instrumental band, technical theater, stage combat, public speaking, and more.
