Winter Showcase & Senior Day Ceremonies

Winter Showcase and Senior Day ceremonies provided an unforgettable stretch for King School Athletics, highlighted by dominant performances, dramatic finishes, and heartfelt celebrations for our senior athletes. Across the courts and the rink, the Vikings competed with passion, poise, and pride.

Varsity Boys Basketball
The King School Varsity Boys Basketball team delivered one of its most complete performances of the season, earning a decisive 94–59 victory over Fieldston School at in the final game of the Winter Showcase on Saturday afternoon.

King set the tone early, jumping out to a strong first half and carrying a commanding 56–22 lead into halftime. The Vikings maintained control in the second half, continuing to defend, share the ball, and convert opportunities in transition.

AJ Trimboli ’26 led all scorers with 25 points, while Krys Gaston ’27 added 15 points off the bench. Jonovan Bracey ’26 and Julian Dent ’26 each contributed 13 points and played key roles on the defensive end of the floor. Ryan Trimboli ’28 added 12 points, shooting an efficient 5-for-7 from the field.

As a team, King shot nearly 50% from the field and recorded an impressive 28 assists, consistently turning defensive stops into offense. One-third of the team’s points came in transition, showcasing the Vikings’ balance, discipline, and energy in a statement Winter Showcase win. The team then rolled through Rye Country Day School on Tuesday and will host Frederick Gunn School this evening at 5:30 p.m. in the Upper School Gym.

Varsity Girls Basketball
Varsity Girls Basketball continued its strong play over the past week, going a perfect 3–0 against HVAL opponents and keeping its league-leading record unbeaten at 7–0.

Last Wednesday, King defeated Wooster 65–26 at home. Carolyn Joo ’28 recorded her third double-double of the season with 25 points and 11 rebounds, adding 4 assists and 4 steals. Anna Melton ’27 contributed 9 points, including two three-pointers, while Emma Lange ’27 added 8 points and 8 rebounds. Greta Sunshine ‘26 scored a season-high 8 points, C.T. Thomson ’28 chipped in 6 points, 4 rebounds, and 3 assists, and Ava Pufko ’28 led the defensive effort with 5 steals.

On Saturday, King took the court for the first game of the Winter Showcase double-header in front of a packed gym and the Project Music student band, earning a convincing 57–24 win over Williams School. Carolyn led the way again with 26 points and 5 steals. Sophia Lasky ’26 had a season-high 13 points, knocking down four three-pointers. C.T. and Anna each added 5 points while contributing across the stat sheet, and freshman Kate Moskowitz ‘29 made her presence felt defensively with four blocks.

Tuesday’s matchup against Harvey School provided the most dramatic finish, as King pulled out an exciting 57–55 overtime victory on Senior Day, as the King community celebrated seniors Sophia and Greta. Carolyn delivered a remarkable performance, scoring 30 points (including six three-pointers) while adding 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals, and 4 blocks. She hit the game-tying three in the final 30 seconds of regulation and followed it with the game-winning three in overtime. Emma finished with 8 points and 6 rebounds, hitting a key late three, while senior Sophia added 6 points on two triples. Anna also scored 6, Ava grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds, along with an important lay-up in overtime, and Thomson contributed 5 rebounds and 3 steals.

Varsity Hockey capped off Senior Day with an impressive 7–3 victory over Harvey School.
Jake Oertel ’28 paced the offensive attack with four goals, while freshman Charlie Cahill ’29 continued his scoring streak, adding a goal, along with Dylan Oertel ’28 and senior Thomas Matzelle ’26, who put an exclamation point on the celebration by scoring on Senior Day.

The program proudly honored seniors Thomas Bonomo, Ava Gunthel, Thomas Matzelle, and Max Winston for their tremendous contributions to King Hockey. Their commitment, leadership, and impact on the program were celebrated during a memorable day at the rink.

We are proud of all our student-athletes for representing King School with heart, resilience, and excellence. The Vikings continue to build momentum as the winter season rolls on.
