The Board of Trustees and the Leadership Team are strong partners in ensuring that King School maintains our academic, financial, and cultural strengths during this challenging and unprecedented time. We continue to make decisions based on our expertise as educators, and we are committed to relying on the strongest available scientific evidence and other data when making decisions about the health and safety of the school community. Most of all, we remain committed to making decisions that clearly align with King's mission, values, virtues, and strategic plan.
As the Board and the Leadership Team look ahead to the new school year, we have created a number of teams to study and plan for the operations of our program, ensure our financial stability and sustainability, and preserve our community and culture. Our plan is to start school on time in September, keeping in mind that medical experts continue to remind us not to expect we simply will return to normal.

Our scenario planning teams will spend significant time now and through the summer to prepare for the 2020-2021 school year. Our goals are to define our changing landscape, to provide frameworks and tools to successfully navigate change, and to provide robust support for our staffulty, students, and families. Among other factors, we will be diligently assessing:
- Legal requirements from state and local governments;
- Health and safety recommendations from health organizations such as the CDC and NIH, and from federal, state, and local governments; and
- Best practices for online learning, campus safety protocols, etc. learned from our own KingIsHome program as well as from other schools, organizations such as the Connecticut Association of Independent Schools (CAIS), the National Association for Independent Schools (NAIS) and many others. We will also reflect deeply on the feedback we’ve received from our community.
Our reopening planning allows for nimbleness and transparency. We are simultaneously preparing three different scenarios: (1) On Campus Learning; (2) KingIsHome; and (3) Hybrid: On Campus Learning + KingIsHome. Each scenario is grounded in our King values and provides the opportunity for our students to continue to learn, stay connected, and stay balanced.
The diagram below and this website communication provides a snapshot of the areas in which we are planning. We will update this information throughout the summer to share our decisions as they evolve.
