This Spring, as King Athletics pivots its focus to home training workouts, virtual team meetings, and sport video challenges on social media amid the Coronavirus pandemic, we would like to take time to recognize one of our standout Spring student-athletes for the positive impact she has made with her team and to King Athletics.
Thanks to her contributions with our Captain's Council, an unwavering commitment to weekly Zoom workout sessions and remote team activities, and all she has meant to the Varsity Softball Team and her teammates this Spring, we are excited to announce Senior Captain Erica Cunningham is a recipient of King Athletics Core Values recognition for her outstanding leadership.
"As one of Erica's softball coaches for her four years at King, the growth and maturity I've seen Erica develop is incredible. Honestly, it's because of her positive attitude, and leadership as a captain that has contributed to the hard work that her teammates have been willing and motivated to put in. Even in a time of stress and sorrow, Erica is always smiling, encouraging and hardworking and because of her, her peers are just as hardworking and positive." -- Amanda Lewis, Varsity Softball Head Coach
"Erica attends every single Captain's Council meeting where she never shies away from expressing her opinion and always makes indelible, positive contributions. Her commitment is exemplary and her outlook and attitude inspire all around her. Through her dedication and leadership, she has truly established a legacy at King that will last for years to come." -- Emily Prince, Assistant Director of College Counseling, Coordinator of Student-Athlete Leadership and Varsity Field Hockey Head Coach
"Erica has been a shining example of showing up and getting things accomplished. She is strong and hardworking and definitely is a bright spot on that team. She shows up to every workout and even though she doesn't have much equipment at this time, she makes it work -- even once grabbing a rock and squatting it, showing her adaptability. Her attitude has been nothing less than super positive and inspiring." -- Bonnie Roberts Crochetiere, King Strength & Conditioning Coach and Varsity Girls Soccer Associate Head Coach
"Erica is an amazing teammate and friend. She's the heart and soul of the Softball and Basketball team. Her positive energy, support of her teammates, and spirit are infectious. Our time together both on and off the field are some of my favorite memories at King. I can't imagine playing without her next year." -- Zoe Tinnesz ('21), Varsity Softball, Basketball, and Soccer
With Erica at the plate and holding down catching duties, King Softball instantly became a team-to-watch last season. In addition to reaching the FAA Softball Semifinals, the Vikings impressive win over St Luke’s is still talked about thanks to Erica's memorable 2-run home run to tie the game at 7-7 before King secured the thrilling comeback victory, 8-7. Along with displaying exemplary leadership, and a constant commitment to her teammates and team, Erica has excelled athletically as a three-sport athlete (Softball, Basketball, Volleyball) and academically at King, recently announcing she will be attending the University of Alabama next Fall.
Congratulations and great work, Erica!
