Grade 4 Students Send Letters to Pen Pals in Spain

Grade 4 Students Send Letters to Pen Pals in Spain

As Jackson Rosen '29 jotted down some of his favorite things for his pen pal, Rodrigo, he exclaimed, "I have so many things I want to share, I don't know which ones to pick!" Using a template, Grade 4 students wrote about themselves in Spanish for their pen pals in Malaga, Spain. They shared some of their favorite things, such as their favorite animal, sports, food, color, and celebrations.

"This is a way for students to acquire real-world communications skills and enhance their cultural perspective of the language," said Rosalba Santander-Cervantes, a faculty member for world languages in the Lower School. "It is a dynamic and creative way for students to sharpen their writing and translation skills. The Pen Pal Project also offers a unique chance for students to develop empathy through interaction in a relevant global context," she added.

The letters will be sent to Spain via postal mail, affording King students the opportunity to be globally connected.
