Health and Wellness
Broadening our focus to the wellness of our whole community of students and adults, we inspire the development of fulfilled young people who embody a sense of purpose and who maintain wellness and balance. To do this, we have several areas within the school that help nurture healthy habits and services to help when needed that include our nurses office, our school counselors, and athlete health services. These services ensure that each child enters the classroom in optimal health and is ready to learn.

Overview
The nurses office provides many different services for students including:
- Administering first aid and triage
- Assisting with student compliance with requirements for immunizations and health status reports (ie physical exams)
- Identifying health and safety risks
- Dispensing medication as necessary
- Providing ongoing emotional support and makes referrals as necessary
- Managing infection control
- Conducting mandated vision and hearing screening

Magnus Health
King School has partnered with Magnus Health to store, collect and manage all of your child’s health in one secure online location. The partnership with Magnus Health allows King to ultimately provide more efficient and consistent health care services to your child including:
Document collection: All medical documentation forms and policies for physical examinations, food or insect allergies, and medications should be accessed and submitted through Magnus. Parents will have access to these forms 24/7 for and most should only need to be submitted to King once per year. You will receive weekly automated email alerts from Magnus beginning 6 weeks prior to due dates.
Daily care: Submitted information is easily updated during the course of the year, ensuring the school is informed of current health needs and can make the best decisions when caring for your child. Information includes a complete health history, emergency contacts, allergies, medications, conditions, and more. Important forms may include permissions, action plans, consent to treat, etc.

2. Deadline for Completion: August 1
- Many returning students may already meet the requirements for physicals/immunization records. In this case, you will clearly see a next “action date” that will indicate when you need to update your information. Alternatively, some returning students may have physicals/immunization records that are past due.
- Some items require you to complete a form. Any applicable forms can be easily downloaded in the Magnus Health Portal, next to the requirement under the “Black Form” column.
- Completed forms can be scanned into the Magnus system or sent directly to Magnus Health via fax or mail. Please do not send any forms to King.

4. Medication Requirements
- Each medication that will be needed in school, including over-the-counter or prescription, must have a Medication Authorization form completed in its entirety by the health care practitioner and parent and submitted as instructed in Magnus. The form can be downloaded in Magnus.
- All medication needs to be delivered to the Nurse’s Office by a parent or guardian in the original, unopened package or original prescription container with label.
- The school does not have any “stock” medication and we are not able to administer any medication (including Tylenol, Advil, etc.) without a completed authorization form and medication supplied by parent.

Magnus Policies & Forms
- Students cannot start school (including preseason athletics) until all requirements in Magnus are complete.
- Accessing Magnus Health: Click the "Access Magnus" button under the "Magnus Health" tab on this page or go to the homepage of the Parent Portal and click the "Magnus Health" button.
- Processing Times: Magnus Health will need 1-2 business days upon receipt of any faxed or mailed documents.
- Locating Forms: To access forms, like the Health Assessment Record, visit the Magus portal and click the document icon listed under "Blank Form" for the form you would like to download and print.
- Uploading Forms: You can upload multiple pages to Magnus Health. You can also use your phone to take a photo of your document to upload from you smartphone web browser.

Please note: Connecting to Magnus Health will require the use of browsers and devices that are compatible with the latest version of the Transport Layer Security protocol (TLS). Older browsers/devices that make an https:// connection will not be able to connect to Magnus Health. Many browsers and devices are updated and thus it is very likely that there will be no impact to your access. We want to make sure that you do not have any challenges accessing the system. You can use the TLS tester available at magnushealth.com

Counseling at King
Lower School
The LS Counseling Department facilitates the social and emotional development of all of our students through the development, implementation, and coordination of the social skills, life skills, emotional development, and prevention programming for the Lower School. A school psychologist works part-time, in partnership with the division leadership, to provide support for individuals and small groups. The Psychologist, Head of Lower School, Director of Teaching and Learning meet regularly with teachers and, as needed, families to ensure children are experiencing growth in school, socially and academically. There is also support and guidance for parents, as well as referrals to community resources.
Middle School
The Student Support Team (SST) is comprised of the Middle School Counselor, the Director of Teaching and Learning, and the Dean of Students. This group meets regularly to review program, student progress and wellness, and parent education. The SST also collaborates closely with advisors and Team Leaders to ensure consistently or programmatic implementation through Advisory and Life Skills curriculum.
Upper School
The School Counselors are available as a supportive resource to all students in Grades 9-12. The Counselors offer the opportunity for brief solution-focused sessions regarding issues that affect students’ academic or social health. The Counselors also take the opportunity to meet with students new to the Upper School to discuss any issues that may arise during their transition to a new school environment. Although most students come to the Counselors by their own referral, Administrators, Personal Advisors, and/or parents can also refer students when they feel that some level of intervention is necessary.
