Girls Soccer
Coach Tony Rocha shared his excitement about the team's recent performance
“Great first week to start regular season play. The team went 3-1, scoring 20 goals and only conceding 4,” Rocha shared.
This included an impressive 5-1 road win over Hopkins School on Wednesday, September 18. Although the Vikings conceded the first goal of the game, they kept their heads up and increased the intensity, leading to five straight scores. Two goals each were scored by Talyor Ansel ’25 and Anya Anderson ’25, and sophomore Olivia Ajayi ’27 added one of her own. Coach Rocha looks for the team to build off of this momentum heading into an important game this weekend against Masters.
Boys Soccer
Coach Juan Zubillaga reflected on the season's start sharing the following message.
"The boys soccer program lost our first game of the season. It was a competitive game that could have gone to either team in the first half. Some short lapses of bad play, coupled with disorganization and mistakes at the start of the second half, led to the game slipping away. However, the boys put in a good effort, and I'd like to highlight our Captains—Griffin Joo ’25, Kieran Rao ’25, and Alex Esposito ’25—for their leadership and hard work on both ends of the ball. They have been productive for the team. We’re focused on correcting our mistakes and improving our cohesiveness. Additionally, the Captains would like to give a shoutout to Jake Gershon ’27 for his great play and effort these past couple of weeks. He has emerged as an incredibly reliable player and will continue to be fundamental to our defense."
On Wednesday, September 18, the Vikings went down early to Frederick Gunn School and gave a great second-half effort in a 4-3 loss.
Field Hockey
King Varsity field hockey fought hard but fell short against perennial power Greenwich Academy. Despite the loss, their effort and determination were commendable, as they took the lead on an early highlight goal by Olivia Mangold ’25 and entered the half tied at 1-1. This is the first year back in the FAA for the Vikings making this the first game against GA in three seasons. King showed they belonged on the big stage and came back the next game in a dominating performance to defeat Greenwich Country Day 4-0. JV field hockey faced a tough opponent in GFA and came up short, but their dedication was evident. Both teams showed remarkable resilience, and we remain proud of our program’s performance.
Varsity Volleyball
Congratulations to Emily McKee ’26 on her commitment to play volleyball at William & Mary College in Williamsburg, Virginia!
The Varsity Volleyball Team continued their strong season with a 3-1 victory over Greenwich Academy and a 3-2 victory over Greenwich Country Day School. Facing two tough opponents they had already seen in the Nectar Classic during preseason, the team demonstrated determination, competitiveness, and resilience. The two road games also added to the pressure, which the Vikings rose above to earn two key FAA wins as they go for another deep run in the postseason.
Football
The Vikings made history this week with a commanding 33-14 victory over last year’s reigning league champions, Rye Country Day—marking their first win against the team since 2017. senior Christ Ippolito ’25 led the charge with two powerful rushing touchdowns, while senior Liam McGuire ’25 added a 24-yard rushing touchdown and a 90-yard interception return for a touchdown. The defense stood strong all game, giving up only one score until the final minute of play, with freshman Rylan Louis ’28 contributing in a big way to the dominant performance with an interception return for a touchdown. Congratulations to the team for their impressive performance! They will be back at home this Saturday, September 20, for a 2:30 p.m. match-up with Riverdale Country Day School.
