Vikings Make History: Girls and Boys Basketball Earn Top Seeds, Hockey Plays for Regular Season Title!

Congratulations to our Vikings for their historic accomplishments this winter!

For the first time, Boys Basketball and Girls Basketball have both won regular-season titles and will be the top seeds in their respective playoffs next week! Later today, Boys Ice Hockey will play to win a regular-season title, looking to complete an amazing first-place sweep for these three varsity teams!

AJ Buckets

Boys Varsity Basketball
First place and home-court advantage were on the line February 20, but Boys Basketball had an all-time great finish, beating Hamden Hall 94-89 in double-overtime! Junior captain AJ Trimboli paved the way for the Vikings with 43 points, including the biggest shot of his outstanding career. Trailing by three points with only 2.8 seconds left in the first OT, AJ nailed a deep three-pointer at the buzzer to send the game into the second overtime! The win secured a regular season title for the boys and propels King to the top seed in the Fairchester Athletic Association (FAA) playoffs next week.

The tournament will start with a home game against Rye Country Day School in the Upper School Gym at 5:45 p.m. on Monday, February 24.

Girls Varsity Basketball
Girls Basketball victories have been by wider margins, but the team's run is no less impressive. Undefeated in Housatonic Valley Athletic League (HVAL) play and riding a 12-game winning streak, the Vikings have won the regular season title and secured the top seed, along with a first-round bye, in the playoffs next week.

The team will host a semifinal game on Wednesday, February 26, in the Upper School Gym at 4:00 p.m. A win in this round will earn the girls the exciting chance to host the HVAL league finals on Saturday, March 1!

Boys Ice Hockey
Boys Ice Hockey will look to earn their own regular season crown tonight, Friday, February 21, with a 5:00 p.m. puck-drop at Rye Country Day School (RCDS). Currently trailing the Wildcats by one game in the standings, a win will secure the title and vault the Vikings to the top seed for the FAA playoffs next week.

King has already locked up a home semifinal for Thursday, February 27. Due to ice time constraints, this game will have an early start time of 3:00 p.m. at Stamford Twin Rinks. The opponent for this round has yet to be set, but the semifinal winners move on to the league finals on Saturday, March 1, with a 3:00 p.m. start back at RCDS.

We hope to pack the stands for each round of the playoffs! Be on the lookout for more details as game day information is confirmed and released.

Good luck to all of our Vikings as they continue to make history this winter!
