Varsity Boys Lacrosse earned an impressive 13-1 win on Wednesday in a New England Small School McCoy Cup semi-final to advance to Friday’s final! The top seed in the western division, King, will take on the top seed in the eastern division, Pingree School, in the McCoy Cup championship game today, May 26, at the Wheeler School’s Farm Field in Seekonk, Massachusetts, at 5:30 p.m.

On Sunday, May 21, Varsity Softball won the Western New England (WNEPSGSBA) Class C championship 4-3 over Canterbury School! In thrilling fashion, the Vikings got two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning and an out with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh inning to secure the title! The team’s four seniors came up big in the final game of their careers. Congratulations to Tess Fredette ’23, Ava Gillespie ’23, Meredith Joo ’23, Izzy White ’23, and the rest of the Vikings!

On Saturday, May 20, King Track & Field competed in the NEPSTA Division III championship meet at Marianapolis Prep in Thompson, Connecticut. On a very rainy day, two Vikings shined brightest: Anya Anderson ’25 won the 200m sprint, finished second in the 100m sprint, and placed third in the long jump, and senior captain Peter Passaro ’23 also stepped up to the challenge and brought home gold in the shot put!

King Crew was also in action on Saturday, May 20, and Sunday, May 21, as the Vikings competed in the Northeast Youth Championships in Worcester, Massachusetts, racing against some of the most competitive teams in the country. King had a strong showing through the time trials, with all boats advancing to the semi-final or final races. Here are the results for the five boats in action:

Crew
  • Boys 2nd 4x Boat: Bronze Medal in Finals
  • Boys U17 2x Boat: 5th Place in Finals
  • Boys 4+ Boat: Advanced to Semi-Finals
  • Girls 2x Boat: Advanced to Semi-Finals
  • Boys 4x Boat: Advanced to Semi-Finals

Varsity Baseball earned a 6-seed in the New England Small School Baseball Tournament, traveling to neutral site Deerfield Academy on Monday, May 22, to take on 3-seed Pingree School. The Vikings got a noteworthy performance on the mound by Frederick Melton ’25 and strong defensive team play throughout the game but were not able to generate the offense needed to overcome the deficit in a 0-3 loss.

Old Timers

The Stamford Old Timers Athletic Association and the Exchange Club of North Stamford honored several Vikings at their end-of-year banquets this past week!

Stamford Old Timers Scholar-Athlete Awards
The Stamford Old Timers Athletic Association has a long history of celebrating athletes that reside in Stamford. The Old Timers recognize stand-out male and female scholar-athletes from Stamford’s high schools. King had two students honored this year, as Emily Cook ’23 and Jonathan Decker ’23 each received the scholar-athlete award. The two honorees were recognized for their contributions in front of family, friends, and coaches at a celebratory dinner this past Wednesday night. Emily was a force on the soccer field for King and will continue playing next year at Franklin & Marshall College. Jonathan has been a member of the Vikings family for his entire life, making his impact on the football and baseball fields, and after a post-graduate year at Hotchkiss School, he will play baseball at Lafayette College. Congratulations, Emily and Jonathan, on this tremendous achievement!

Stamford Old Timers Lifetime Achievement Award
The Stamford Old Timers Board honored Coach Dan Gouin with a lifetime achievement award on Wednesday night as well. The recognition coincides with his retirement as the Head Coach of King football, a role he filled for 21 years. During his tenure at King, Gouin also taught and coached in many different roles for a total of 24 years. Through his work with our students, athletes, and families, Gouin’s dedication and impact to the King community was substantial and significant during his two-plus decades at the school. Congratulations and well-deserved, Coach Gouin!

Exchange Club of Stamford Jack Keegan Female Scholar-Athlete Award
The Exchange Club of Stamford continued a long-standing tradition of honoring one outstanding female scholar-athlete from Stamford’s high schools. This year’s Jack Keegan Female Scholar Athlete Award presentation took place on Thursday, May 25, at the Knights of Columbus Hall. King Senior Meredith Joo ’23 was recognized as the recipient of this prestigious award. Meredith excelled on the basketball court and softball field for King and is a top student in the senior class. Congratulations to Meredith on this incredible honor!
