King School’s winter sports teams are on fire, advancing to their championship games after dominant semifinal performances! Girls Basketball, Boys Basketball, and Ice Hockey each delivered impressive victories, completing the unprecedented sweep. School history has already been made, as this is the first time all three programs have advanced to the finals in the same season, and the Vikings now set their sights on the ultimate prize as they look to capture league championships this weekend. Join us to pack the stands for an exciting few days of playoff action as the teams aim for victory!
Both the Girls and Boys Basketball teams advanced to host league championship games with impressive wins in the semifinals on Wednesday!
First up was top-seeded Girls Basketball in the HVAL semifinals, as they hosted Christian Heritage. King left no doubt from the start, coming out on fire in the first quarter to build a commanding 20-point lead. The squad never looked back, as the lead ballooned to more than 30 points in the second half, in a dominating, full-team effort. Freshman phenom Carolyn Joo ‘28 led the way with 33 points. The Vikings now move on to host the HVAL Championship Game against #2 Watkinson School on Saturday at 12:00 p.m. in the Upper School Gym!
Boys Basketball took the floor next, hosting league rival St. Luke's in the FAA Semifinals. In a game that would not disappoint the large crowd, the Vikings clawed to an early lead, only to see the Storm move to the front. The teams entered halftime tied.
In a back and forth second half that saw numerous lead changes, King stepped up in the closing moments to make key defensive stops, and converted on the offensive end with two late baskets and two free throws in the final seconds to earn the tough playoff win! Junior star AJ Tromboli ‘26 once again paced the Vikings with 35 points. King now moves on to host the FAA Championship Game against #3 Brunswick on Friday at 4:45 p.m. in the Upper School Gym!
AJ Trimboli ’26 Celebrates 1,000-Point Milestone
Ahead of their matchup with St. Luke’s, the Vikings dominated Rye Country Day School with a commanding 81-51 victory. The win was especially memorable for AJ Trimboli ’26, who reached a personal milestone by becoming the 18th player in King history to score 1,000 career points. AJ, who has been playing Varsity since Grade 8, is part of a true family affair: his brother, Ryan ’28, is a teammate, and his uncle, Mike Trimboli, serves as the team’s Head Coach. With one season still ahead before graduation, AJ has plenty of time to build on this impressive number and keep making his mark at King!
Varsity Ice Hockey earned a convincing 6-3 victory over Hamden Hall this week in the FAA Semifinals at Stamford Twin Rinks! Brayden Hekle ‘28 led the way with a two-goal, two-assist game, including the game-winner. Gideon Lechner ‘27 added a goal and two assists, Alex Strug ‘27 had a pair of goals and Teddy Pemberton ‘28 earned his first playoff win with a gutsy 31-save effort. The win punched King’s ticket to the Championship Game on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. against Rye Country Day School! In the final game of the regular season last Friday, King came away with an outstanding win over the same RCDS team, earning the Vikings the top seed in the playoffs! In the game, senior captain Brandon Chan ‘25 put on a performance to remember, with three straight goals to help propel King to the 4-2 victory!
