Sixteen Seniors Inducted Into the Prestigious Cum Laude Society
Cum Laude 2026

Sixteen seniors were formally inducted into the prestigious Cum Laude Society during a ceremony held in the Performing Arts Center theater on Monday, April 20.

Established in 1906, the Cum Laude Society recognizes outstanding academic achievement in secondary schools and seeks to promote the values of excellence, justice, and honor. Membership is extended to students who rank among the top in their graduating class based on academic merit. Today, the international organization includes 382 chapters and welcomes approximately 4,000 new student members each year.

The King chapter may nominate up to 20% of the senior class for induction, provided that students have completed at least one full year in the Upper School.

Gigante Reading

“The distinguished record you have made at King has won you membership in the Cum Laude Society,” English teacher Suzanne Gigante said as she read the society’s formal charge to the inductees. “As you pursue your education, it is our hope that you will accept the honor of membership in this society as a responsibility to make some contribution to the ongoing search for greater understanding of the world in which we live.”

In continued remarks, Gigante commended the group for their academic achievements during their time at King and challenged them to pursue continued personal growth as they advance in college and life beyond King.

Drawing a connection to the 16th-century word “woolgathering”, which describes the process of wandering in one’s thoughts, Gigante described the benefit of thinking beyond academics.

“It will profit you, all of us, if we gather some wool,” she said. “We will find ourselves more able to do the things that matter to us and realize just what matters to us in the first place.”
