King School and King School Athletics are pleased to announce that Joe Amelio has been named the new Varsity Boys Basketball Coach. Amelio brings a strong background in both coaching and program development, along with a proven ability to build competitive, connected teams. 

“I am incredibly excited to lead this program forward and build something that the entire community can take pride in,” said Amelio. “I am truly grateful to the King School and its families for the opportunity, and I look forward to working together to develop our student-athletes both on and off the court.”

Most recently, Amelio served as the Head Varsity Coach at Scarsdale High School, where he helped reset the program and establish a unified culture, leading the team to multiple deep postseason runs, including Final Four appearances and a championship run.

Throughout his career, Amelio has demonstrated a strong ability to develop student-athletes both individually and as part of a team. At Scarsdale, he emphasized daily habits and personal growth while guiding players through the college recruiting process, with athletes advancing to play at Division I institutions such as Princeton University and Lehigh University, as well as several high-academic Division III schools. Prior to Scarsdale, he spent over six years at St. Raymond High School in the Bronx, coaching multiple levels and helping develop numerous Division I players. He also brings a strong playing background, competing at St. Raymond before going on to Stevens Institute of Technology, where he was part of an NCAA Division III Sweet 16 team.

In addition to his high school experience, Amelio is the founder of Fast Break Recruitment, where he works closely with families to navigate the college process and support student-athletes in finding the right fit for their academic and athletic futures.

At the core of Amelio’s approach is a commitment to discipline, teamwork, communication, and shared responsibility. He creates a structured and competitive environment while maintaining a strong focus on relationships and the overall student-athlete experience. He brings a calm and confident presence, holds players to a high standard, and ensures expectations are clearly understood and consistently reinforced, key elements as we continue to strengthen the culture of the program.
