A contingent of King students traveled abroad for exciting international studies as part of the middle and upper school Global Travel Program.
In Costa Rica, rising ninth-grade students and faculty chaperones immersed themselves in the country's culture and environment and participated in service learning activities. Over the course of the trip, the group visited an animal reserve, learned about coffee, cocoa, and chocolate production at a working farm, hiked a volcano, and swam at the base of a waterfall.
Students sought to answer the guiding question, "Where am I needed in my community?” as they engaged in projects for Orphaned Starfish Foundation programs, played games with OSF-supported children, and assembled care packages to leave behind.
Across the Atlantic, upper school students and faculty chaperones trekked across Europe during their summer rips.
The Global Art trip in June was an unforgettable exploration of art, history, and culture.
In Amsterdam, the group stepped into Rembrandt's world, explored the Rijksmuseum, and dove into Dutch maritime history. Paris brought the magic of the Louvre, Musée d’Orsay, Centre Pompidou, and a serene day at Monet’s home and garden in Giverny. The group also enjoyed a food-tasting tour and a lesson in the French approach to gastronome. The journey concluded in Venice with visits to Doge’s Palace, Saint Mark’s Cathedral, and views of contemporary art marvels at the Venice Biennale.
During their trip to Spain and Germany in July, students explored cultural landmarks and learned about the profound impact of water on society. Beginning in Valencia, students learned about traditional and modern water management techniques at local farms and saw how water plays a critical role in food production. The King cohort in Berlin visited historical landmarks, including the Berlin Wall along the Spree River, where they reflected on how water shapes both natural and urban landscapes. The experience culminated in The Impact of Water on Society Global Leadership Summit, where students collaborated on innovative solutions to global water issues, emphasizing equitable access, economic development, and environmental conservation. This journey highlighted the essential and multifaceted role water plays in the world and people’s day-to-day lives.
