Grade 8 Students Lead Cultural Exchange
Continuing an annual tradition, Grade 8 students welcomed peers from The Greenwich Japanese School (GJS) on Wednesday, January 10, as part of their cultural exchange program. The meeting marked a decade of exchanges and provided a valuable opportunity for students to examine the similarities and differences between the two communities.

The morning program began with students and Grade 8 Team Leader Ken Lewis welcoming students and faculty from the GJS in the Middle School Commons. There, King students delivered slide presentations about American culture, featuring holidays, fashion, sports, music, food, movies, games, and the students’ current studies.

The guests enjoyed time outdoors on the Armstrong and King Family Fields. Students laughed and cheered, playing volleyball and soccer on the crisp winter morning.

King students led campus tours across all divisions, discussing daily life and what it's like to be a student at King. Tours ended at the upper school gym, where the groups took turns shooting hoops on the basketball court.

The day concluded with students from both schools reflecting on how much they enjoyed the day and how they were able to bond with the students from GJS despite language barriers.

“When we were trying to play basketball, it was easy to communicate on teams,” said Cal Crespo ’28.

“It was easy for us because one person in our group spoke English,” noted Lucy Constas ’28.

The groups will continue to bond next week as the exchange continues, with the King students visiting The Greenwich Japanese School on Thursday, January 18.
