The lower school courtyard was filled with a sense of belonging and pride as families, faculty, and staff from across divisions mingled at the second annual Families of Students of Color BBQ on Monday, August 26. The event welcomed over 120 members of the King community for an evening of connection and fun, highlighting King’s pledge to create a strong sense of inclusion among all families.
The event is a gathering for families with children of color, as well as for any member of the King community who wants to learn more about how King supports diverse families and families with children of color.
Head of School Carol Maoz and Director of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) Clyde Beverly opened the event by thanking attendees for their support and highlighting King’s dedication to creating a diverse and welcoming community.
“Events like this illustrate King’s commitment to going beyond inclusion and taking intentional steps to create a sense of belonging for our community members,” reflected Beverly. “Our community is stronger when our connections are stronger.”
Throughout the evening, community members enjoyed food provided by Flik and Kona Ice while participating in games, listening to music, socializing, and learning more about King’s DEIB initiatives.
