King Varsity Girls Tennis entered the NEPSAC Class C tournament as the 7th-seeded team in the field. They began their postseason run at Pomfret School against 2nd-seeded Hamden Hall this past Saturday with a tightly contested 4-3 team win.
The Vikings followed their first-round upset with another 4-3 victory over the 3-seed Pomfret in the semifinals late Saturday afternoon. The win allowed King to compete for their first-ever NEPSAC championship against top overall seed St. Luke’s on Sunday at St. Luke’s.
King started out even with St. Lukes, splitting the four singles matches and entering the doubles round tied 2-2. The first two doubles matches also split, so it was up to the #1 doubles team of Smanatha Spenner ’26 and Lilha Mehta ’27 to break the 3-3 tie. In an epic two-set 2-set match, the Vikings held strong and used some powerful serves and tremendous points to earn the win and wrap up the championship! This is the first New England title in program history for the Vikings!
