The Class of 2027 donned hard hats, high-visibility vests, and posed for pictures after signing their names on steel beams framing the upcoming Campus Center, currently under construction at the Upper School.
“You already belong to King’s history,” said Head of School Carol Maoz in her opening remarks to the students. “Today, you write yourselves into its next chapter, right here in this building.”
While the Campus Center will not be completed until after the class graduates, the event gave seniors a chance to imagine how it will become part of their King experience as alumni. Maoz noted the many opportunities they will have to return to the space, including reunions, Homecoming, mentoring through King Connects, speaking with future senior classes at Career Day, and other chances to stay connected to the school.
Once construction is complete, the students’ signatures will be hidden behind finished walls, but their connection to the building will remain.
“Some of the most important parts of who we are are not always visible to others; they are deep within us. We know they are there, and that is what is most important,” said Maoz. She also shared that a plaque will be installed in the building to recognize the Class of 2027, noting that their names are permanently embedded within the Campus Center.
Later in the year, the class will also create a time capsule filled with objects that reflect their lives today and place it within the building and open it when they return for their 25-year reunion, giving them another lasting connection to this moment in King’s history.
