Partnership with Chinese School explores cultural similarities and differences

For the past two years, King has cultivated a relationship with a school in Beijing and continues to develop a collaborative program. Earlier this month, 19 students from the Chinese school visited our campus experiencing a day in the life here of a King student. The Chinese guests tested the virtual reality and 3D printing machines in the Innovation Lab, explored 1980s art history and the techniques used during that period, attended AP Government, Chinese, Chemistry, and Biology classes, played basketball in the US gym, and toured the entire campus.

In March, 21 King students will travel to China and continue to build this relationship. The trip, in collaboration with Global Education, Athletics, and World Languages, includes a three-day visit with Jianhua School in Beijng. King students, which includes a group of Vikings basketball players, will immerse in Chinese culture for 12 days, traveling to Shanghai, Chengdu & Beijing. Students will also take part in cultural opportunities including The Great Wall, Tiananmen Square, the Forbidden City, the Jade Buddha Temple, and many more incredible sites and locations. Our basketball players will practice with and play against the basketball teams from the schools in Shanghai and Beijing.

Last summer, Dr. Chosson, Director of Global Education, Micah Hauben, Dean of Athletics, and Siying Ma, World Languages Faculty, went to Beijing to prepare for our students March trip. The group visited domestic Chinese and International schools in Shanghai and Beijing to research for the program.

At King School, educating our youth to become future global leaders is at the forefront of our curricular mission to prepare students to thrive in a rapidly changing world. By fostering in students an educated awareness of our increasingly interdependent world, King prepares students to recognize the need for their active participation in ethical, cultural, socioeconomic, political, scientific, and environmental issues.
