The Vikings are extremely excited to announce Summer Lackey has been hired as the new Head Varsity Coach for the King Girls Lacrosse program. Coach Lackey is a King graduate ('10), where she was a standout Lacrosse and Soccer player, and has recently started back at King teaching in the Lower School as a Pre-K assistant.
A former MVP, two-time FAA All-League selection, and three-time NEPSWLA All-Star in lacrosse, Summer went on to play at Skidmore College. Coach Lackey brings a tremendous passion for the sport and a deep connection to King and the King community (she is one of three Segalas sisters to attend and star at King), and will look to develop a consistent culture of commitment, leadership, teamwork, and excitement for King Girls Lacrosse as she strives to enhance and elevate the competitiveness of the program and the experience of the student-athletes.
"I am truly honored and could not be more excited to join the King Girls Lacrosse Program as Varsity Head Coach! As a King alumna and lifer, having attended from Pre-K 3 through Grade 12, I cannot wait to return to my former 'home away from home' and will strive to provide our student-athletes with a fun, memorable experience that fosters personal and team development both on and off the field," said Coach Lackey, who was both a team captain for Lacrosse and Soccer.
After graduating from Skidmore College with a degree in Business Management, Coach Lackey served as an Assistant Coach for the Varsity Girls Lacrosse Team and was Head Coach for the JV Girls Lacrosse Team at Fairfield Ludlowe High School in Fairfield, Connecticut. The opportunity to return to King and to lead the Girls Lacrosse program was a chance to come back to where it all started for Summer.
"My experiences as a student-athlete at King and Skidmore helped shape who I am today, and I learned first-hand how lessons learned in the sports arena translate into everyday life. My favorite coaches were always the ones who believed in me more than I believed in myself and challenged me to grow while also reminding me to have fun, and that is the type of coach I am, 100% committed to being myself. I look forward to connecting with players and families and cannot wait to get started!"
Joining Coach Lackey on the sidelines this Spring are assistant coaches Mackenzie Johnson and Lakeya Graves, who helped develop the program last season under Coach Adam Boaz and bring a strong knowledge of the student-athletes in the program and a sense of where the Vikings can grow.
Coach Lackey and the Vikings Girls Lacrosse program will get to work early in the spring and see their first action at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida as part of their training trip from March 21-26.
