Uniform and Equipment Requirements, Program Locations, and Additional Fee Listings
Notes: Middle School practices are held each day. MS Athletics King logo shorts are to be purchased from the King School Store as part of the game uniform if your son/daughter participates in any of the following sports: Cross Country/Track, Soccer, Volleyball, Squash, Boys Lacrosse or Tennis. All athletes are encouraged to bring their own water bottle each day to practices and competitions.
FALL SEASON
2024 FALL SEASON
Opening Schedule:
Wednesday, September 4 - Orientation Session for all Grade 6-8 Students in Lower School Gym (2:15-3:10 p.m.)
Thursday, September 5 - First Day of Middle School Fall Practices
Program Offerings:
- Crew (Co-ed, Location: Row America Greenwich, additional fees per student apply, amount approx. $700.): Rowers are issued a high visibility shirt. Dry land practices are held at King until September 30 from 2:15-3:15 p.m and then on the water at Row America Greenwich on Tuesdays and Thursdays in October from 3:00-4:00 p.m. Transportation is provided to and from Row America. Parent pick up is either at 4:00 p.m. from Row America or 4:30 p.m. from King. Dry land practices will take place at King on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays in October during normal sports time from 2:20-3:20 p.m. and then again from October 31 until the end of the winter season. A swimming level evaluation session for all participants will be held before the group’s first day on the water.
- Cross Country (Co-ed, On-Campus): Runners are provided a race shirt, but need to have their own proper running shoes.
- Field Hockey (On-Campus: Middle Turf Field): Players are issued a practice pinnie, game jersey and skort, goggles and mouthguard. They must have their own stick and shin guards. Proper molded cleats are suggested.
- Fundamentals of Fitness and Strength Training (Co-ed, On-Campus: LS Weight Room and US Cardio Room): Students should wear King clothing suitable for athletic activity. Please note that there are restrictions to the number of participants so students may need to choose a second sport. School-year limits: Grade 7 and 8 students - one season of participation / Grade 6 students - two seasons of participation. The spring season is only open to students in Grade 6 and 7.
- Football (Grades 7 and 8. On-Campus: South Campus Turf Field): Players are issued practice pinnie, full football pads, a helmet, mouthguard, pants, and home and away game jerseys. Proper molded cleats are suggested. Grade 6 students may be considered for participation on a case-by-case basis based on the school's assessment of individual safety, skill and experience.
- Golf (Co-ed, Location: Sterling Farms): Practices are held at Sterling Farms on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursday from 2:30-4:00 p.m. Pick up is either at 4:00 p.m. from Sterling Farms or 4:15 p.m. from King. Dry land training takes place at King on Fridays during normal sports time from 2:20-3:20 p.m. Students should bring their own golf clubs. Upon request, some clubs may be provided for use. Additionally please note that there are restrictions to the number of participants so students may need to choose a second sport.
- Boys Soccer (On-Campus: North Grass, Middle and South Campus Turf Fields): Players are issued a practice pinnie, game jersey and a pair of soccer socks. They must have their own shin pads. Proper molded cleats are suggested.
- Girls Soccer (On-Campus: North Grass, Middle and South Campus Turf Fields): Players are issued a practice pinnie, game jersey and a pair of soccer socks. They must have their own shin pads. Proper molded cleats are suggested.
- Girls Volleyball (On-Campus: LS and US Gyms): Players are issued a game jersey. They must have their own kneepads.
WINTER SEASON

Program Offerings:
- Boys Basketball (On-Campus: LS and US Gyms): Players will be issued a practice pinnie, a game jersey, and shorts.
- Girls Basketball (On-Campus: LS and US Gyms): Players will be issued a practice pinnie, a game jersey, and shorts.
- Dance (Co-ed, On-Campus): Participants should wear workout clothing appropriate for athletic activity.
- Fundamentals of Fitness and Strength Training (Co-ed, On-Campus: LS Weight Room and US Cardio Room): Students should wear King clothing suitable for athletic activity. School-year limits: Grade 7 and 8 students - one season of participation / Grade 6 students - two seasons of participation.
- Ice Hockey (Co-ed, Location: Stamford Twin Rinks, Per-Athlete fee is based on the number of participating students, approximate range of $1500.00): On-ice practices held on Tuesdays (2:35-3:45 p.m.), Wednesdays (2:35-3:45 p.m.), and Thursdays (2:35-3:45 p.m.), as well as on select Mondays and Fridays (2:35-3:45 p.m.). Dry-land training will be held on non-ice at King (2:20-3:20 p.m.). The coaches will email out the ice day schedule to all participating families. Students must know how to skate. For on-ice sessions, students must have the proper equipment (skates, pads, helmet, and stick, King does not provide this equipment). When taking part in dry-land training at King, students must be in proper workout attire, any King clothing, and sneakers. Players will be issued home and away game jerseys and team socks. Transportation is provided to Stamford Twin Rinks for practices and home games, with parent pick up is at Twin Rinks after practices and games. For away games, King provides round trip transportation from King to the game location and then again back to King.
- Paddle Tennis (Co-Ed, Location: Italian Center): Students must wear appropriate non-marking footwear, and have a racquet. On-court practices will be held from 2:20-3:20 p.m. Upon request, a racquet can be provided.
- Squash (Co-ed, Location: Ox Ridge Club, Darien, Per-Athlete fee is based on the number of participating students, approximate range of $1250.00): Students must wear appropriate non-marking footwear, goggles, and have a racquet. Participants will be issued a game jersey. On-court practices at Ox Ridge will be held an average of four days per week on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays from 2:45-3:30 p.m. and on Thursday from 2:45-4:00 pm. Most home matches will take place at Ox Ridge on Thursday. In addition, an average of one dry-land training session per week will be held on Friday at King from 2:20-3:20 p.m. Transportation is provided to and from Ox Ridge for practices and all matches, whether home or away.
- Swimming (Co-ed, Location: Italian Center, Per-Athlete fee is based on the number of participating students, approximate range of $700.00): This is a developmental, non-competitive swim program run at the Italian Center. Students must wear appropriate swimwear and bring their own goggles and a towel each day to practice.
- Yoga (Co-ed, On-Campus): Participants should wear workout clothing appropriate for athletic activity. Students must bring their own yoga mat and a water bottle.
SPRING SEASON

Opening Schedule:
Friday, February 28 - Orientation Session for all Grade 6-8 Students in Lower School Gym (2:20-3:15 p.m.)

Program Offerings:
- Baseball (On-Campus: Middle Turf Field): Players will be issued a game jersey, hat, pants and socks. Metal cleats are not permitted and participants need to bring their own baseball glove. Personal bats are recommended, but team bats will be provided.
- Cross Country/Track (Co-ed, On-Campus): Runners are provided a race shirt, but need to have their own proper running shoes.
- Fundamentals of Fitness and Strength Training (Co-ed, On-Campus: King Fields, LS Weight Room and US Cardio Room): Students should wear King clothing suitable for athletic activity. Spring season limited to Grade 6 and 7 students only.
- Boys Lacrosse (On-Campus: South Turf Field): Players will be issued a practice pinnie, game jersey, mouthguard, and a helmet. Students must provide their own certified and approved lacrosse stick, shoulder pads, elbow pads and gloves. Proper molded cleats are suggested.
- Girls Lacrosse (On-Campus: South Turf Field): Players will be issued a practice pinnie, game jersey, skort, goggles and mouthguard. Students must provide their own certified and approved lacrosse stick. Proper molded cleats are suggested.
- Softball (On-Campus: Middle Turf Field): Players will be issued game jersey, pants, socks, and visor. Metal cleats are not permitted and participants need to bring their own softball glove.
- Pickleball (Coed, Location: Italian Center): Students must wear appropriate non-marking footwear, and have a racquet. On-court practices will be held from 2:20-3:15 p.m. Paddle's will be provided, but students are welcome to bring their own.
- Tennis (Coed: Competitive and Developmental Options, Locations: Italian Center and Sterling Farms Tennis Courts): Evaluation sessions will be held at the beginning of the season to determine proper placement of participants to competitive or developmental teams. Due to court space participation numbers will be limited. Shirts for matches will be provided. Players need to provide their own tennis shorts, tennis racket, proper tennis shoes, and must wear proper King attire during practices.
