ASPIRE Students Shine as King Competes in its First Ever Statewide Science Research Competition!

Ryan Heaton '21 earned second place in the Health & Medical category for his Computer Science-based cancer research project for which he wrote code and taught a computer to discern detailed differences between subtypes of renal cell carcinoma (kidney cancer). Alex Lim '21 was chosen as a finalist for the Office of Naval Research (ONR) Specialty Award for his drone-based automated security system for schools and other brick-and-mortar establishments that will deter armed assailants without putting the human life of a security guard in harm's way.

Two seniors receive awards at Harvard MUN in true hands-on global experience

Our Model UN team had another successful conference at Harvard in early February. The conference was highlighted by a very productive participation of 22 students from all US grades and seniors Diana Degnan and David Shattan winning two prestigious awards. There were over 4,000 students from 55 countries creating a true international atmosphere that accentuated the hands-on global experience while the students debated their topics based on their positions. Our delegation represented Ukraine in the General Assembly and the Economic and Social Council, and we had several specialized assignments that enriched the overall experience of our team.

Research-based project has US students imagining and constructing a life in France

Denise Mihailoff, World Languages Faculty, created a project where US students could conduct research, and showcase and apply knowledge, understanding, and skills in a creative way. The project focused on students 'buying' a house in France and living there with their family. They conducted research on the most beautiful towns and various homes and then picked a house they liked.

Harry Amadeo '20 and Alex Lim '21 reach for the stars (literally) in the 2019-2020 ASPIRE program

Congratulations to nine students who have been accepted into the 2019-2020 Advanced Science Program for Independent Research and Engineering (ASPIRE) program, which is supported by the Advanced Mathematics and Science Study Program fund. This post highlights Harry Amadeo '20 and Alex Lim '21. Both students are reaching for the stars (literally) as they work on designing and building things that fly. For Harry, it's rockets and rocket fuel and for Alex, it's a drone.

Supporting and cultivating an inclusive learning community at Seattle conferences

A group of six Upper School students and six staffulty, including Head of School Karen Eshoo, from multiple divisions and disciplines traveled together for and experienced an insightful and transformative experience at the NAIS People of Color Conference and the Student Diversity Leadership Conference in December. As student Hanhah Greene '21 enthused, "What was so compelling about this conference was meeting people from all around the country living totally different lives, but were able to connect and find such close similarities between one another."
