Grade One gets two surprise guests at their morning meeting

Grade One students had two surprise guests this morning during Mrs. Rachinsky-Wood's morning Zoom meeting. Stamford Police Officer Lou Scarano and his K9 Dobey joined the meeting as part of the students 'All About Stamford' Social Studies Unit.

After greeting the students, Officer Lou read 'If You Give a Moose a Muffin', by Laura Joffe Numeroff. This is one book in a series of stories about animals, their favorite humans, and the many adventures they have together. Grade One students are currently reading series books as well as writing their own during Readers and Writers Workshop sessions.

The unit this morning was a perfect example of cross-curricular programming as it combined the study of the diverse city of Stamford while nurturing a love of reading and writing. We are happy to see our youngest students continuing their learning while KingIsHome.
