New York Times best selling author Adam Gidwitz visited Grades 2-5 this week to share how he became an author, and discuss his soon to be released series "The Unicorn Rescue Society." The series is an illustrated adventure about mythical creatures and their cultures of origin. Mr. Gidwitz' storytelling skills are not limited to the page, as the rousing laughter from the students proved. He shared his hilarious adventures as a classroom teacher and described how all the storytelling he did as a child through imaginative play and sports translated into his writing. Perhaps the most interesting aspect of his presentation was his description of the process and the amount of editing and rewriting he devotes over years to each book. Emily Decker, Library Media Specialist, commented, "Mr. Gidwitz' presentation helped students understand the value of the approach King teaches to writing and editing as keys to successful storytelling."
