Grade 8 student supports local organization during COVID-19 by thinking like an entrepreneur

Charlie Allard '24 is making a difference during the COVID-19 pandemic by thinking like an entrepreneur. Charlie is creating and selling Purallard, a hand sanitizer, which is 70% alcohol (made in an FDA registered facility) and is infused with pure lavender essential oil, so it smells amazing! All proceeds are donated to Neighbor to Neighbor (N2N) in Greenwich.

Over the past few weeks, Charlie and his friend, Charlotte, have organized a plan to make and sell homemade purell for charity. "It feels great to help out the community especially during this hard time that we are all going through. Recently, when we sent out an email, it was met with outstanding success, and as of April 17, we have surpassed $1000 in donations, due to people's generosity. My plan for the business is to continue working and making more Purallard and strive to help out in any way possible," comments Charlie.

The email below went out earlier this week, from Charlie and Charlotte, and contains details on how to obtain Purallard by making a donation to N2N. You can also email Charlie to donate and receive Purallard. The entire King Community is extremely proud of Charlie and grateful for his contribution. Keep up the good work!

Dear friends and neighbors

Recently, a friend and I have been working on a project to help N2N, which works hard all year to provide families with food, clothing, household items and more. With the current COVID-19 crisis, they have become a critical resource for even more people than usual. Many people in our community need their help right now because of job losses and food insecurity.

They recently moved their food pantry to Arch Street Teen Center, because they didn't have enough space at their regular food pantry to service their families. The organization believes that the families it serves will need support for a very long time, even after some of us are able to return to offices, school, and regular life.

We decided that one way we could help was through a corona-themed fundraiser! We are giving away a 3 oz. bottle of hand sanitizer, free with a donation! It is 70% alcohol (made in an FDA registered facility) and is infused with pure lavender essential oil, so it smells amazing! For anyone who makes a $10 or more donation to N2N, we will deliver a FREE bottle to your doorstep. Because N2N buys all food in bulk, every $1.00 donated is equivalent to $2.50 of food. Email Charlie and let us know if you want to 1) leave cash or a check (payable to Neighbor to Neighbor Greenwich) in an envelope on your doorstep, or 2) venmo my mom @Ellen-Reid-15 if it's easier. We will reply to coordinate timing and deliver the bottles to you this weekend and/or next week.

Best,
Charlotte Reid and Charlie Allard
