After School Enrichment & Care

For Lower School students, King offers both After School Enrichment and After School Care options. Please find information listed below on the Enrichment Classes and After School Care tabs.

Enrichment Classes

King is pleased to offer After School Enrichment classes to suit a variety of interests.

Registration for these classes is by email only. Please contact the Faculty as listed below directly with any questions or to register for a class. If you have any questions concerning After School Enrichment Classes in general, please contact Karen Raidt, Director of King Cares Service and Student Services, at kraidt@kingschoolct.org or (203) 322-3496 Ext. 311.

Please note, Enrichment Classes take place when school is in session. There are no classes during School Breaks. In the event of a Snow Day, classes will be re-scheduled for another date.

Engineering Adventures

In Engineering Adventures students will use the engineering design process to imagine, plan, create, assess and improve on designs to solve real world problems!

GRADES: 3-5

Fun with Snag Golf

King Athletics is proud to present a new youth developmental, station-based golf program for our Lower School students. The SNAG program incorporates FMS (Fundamental Movement Systems), involving patterns of combined body movement, along with locomotive, stability, and awareness skills. Join King Varsity Head Coach and LPGA Professional, Roxanne Mitchell, for this fun way to learn golf, while enhancing athletic performance and not having to wait in line for a turn!

Students should wear comfortable athletic clothing and sneakers and bring a snack and water bottle. SNAG Golf equipment will be provided for all participants.

Kid's Yoga

Yoga exercises your mind, body and breath! Students will strengthen and stretch their bodies while learning how to focus and improve their moods through relaxation and breathing skills. There are many benefits of yoga including improved balance and motor skills, increased creativity, and a strong sense of self and community.

Classes will consist of warm up, pose work, independent practice, and relaxation time.

Students should wear comfortable clothing and bring a snack and a water bottle.

Lego Wedo Robotics

During the 6 weeks students will create robotic creatures and machines using Lego Wedo Kits.

Lunch Time Chess

Chess is a game for people of all ages. You can learn to play at any age and in chess, unlike in many other sports, you don't ever have to retire. Age is also not a factor when you're looking for an opponent --young can play old and old can play young.

Math Olympiad

Students who join math team will sharpen their problem-solving skills in a unique collaborative environment as they work with teammates to solve challenging problems each week. These weekly sessions will help prepare students for five monthly MOEMS (MathOlympiad for Elementary and Middle School Students) competitions from November through March. The competitions will help students to work under pressure, refine their computational skills and compete at a national level. This is a challenging program and commitment, ability and a passion for math is required to join the Math Team.

Please note: The math team requires a 6-month commitment from October through March. Team participants must make every effort to be present for every contest and weekly meeting. Snack will be provided.

Saturday Soccer Clinic

King Athletics is proud to present a new soccer program for our Lower School students. King coaches, along with our Varsity players, will teach the fundamentals of soccer, focusing on skill development and having fun! This is a great opportunity for current players to elevate their game and new players to learn the sport.

All participants should bring water and their own soccer ball and must wear shin guards and non-metal or turf cleats or sneakers.

Saturday Field Hockey Clinic

King Athletics is proud to present a clinic-based field hockey program for our Lower School students. King coaches, along with our Varsity players, will teach the fundamental skills of field hockey in a fun, but deliberate way using a curriculum that will focus on skill development, game strategy, and open play. This is a great opportunity for current players to advance their skills and for new players to learn the sport and have fun. Gain the skills; possess the ball; control the game!

All players should bring water, wear non-metal or turf cleats or sneakers, and be properly equipped with stick, goggles, mouthguard and shin guards. No exceptions, but equipment is available upon request.

Vocal Ensemble

Have you ever wanted to improve your singing skills and learn to sing songs that you love? This is the ensemble for you! Students will work to learn healthy vocal techniques, musicianship skills, and sing in harmony. Repertoire will include popular as well as traditional tunes.

DATES: Monday Sept. 24, Oct. 1,15, 22, 29, Nov. 5

TIME: 2:50 - 3:20 p.m.

Zumba Kids

Come shake, move, and get fit! Zumba Kids is an innovative dance fitness class, which offers a fun, energetic way to promote a healthy lifestyle through movement and exercise. There are many benefits to Zumba Kids some of which include; improved coordination, balance, muscle tone, memory, endurance, and creativity. Students will also learn cool dance steps, routines, and games while enjoying 100% kid friendly music.

Be sure not to miss out on all the fun!

The class will consist of a warm-up, dance steps/routines, game time, and cool-down.

Students need to wear comfortable, loose fitting clothing and sneakers. Students should also bring a snack, towel, and a bottle of water.

After School Care

King is pleased to offer after school care for children in Full or Half Day Preschool-Grade 5. Qualified Staff and US students interact with the children in a casual, fun environment after school.

Registration: Registration for After School Care is by email only. To enroll in the After School Care Program, please download this form and email it to Karen Raidt at kraidt@kingschoolct.org. You will receive a confirmation email once your email has been received.

Facilities: Most activities take place within the LS Media Center, where children have access to books, magazines, computers, and cozy seating. Weather permitting, the program takes advantage of King’s fields and playground.

Hours of Operation: Monday-Friday, 2:45-5:30 p.m., when school is in session. There is no After School on early dismissal days.

Policies:

  • Pick up is 5:30 p.m.
  • A late fee of $25.00 will be charged after 5:35 p.m. to defray the additional staffing costs.
  • Your child will be automatically reenrolled in the After School Program each trimester unless you notify us otherwise.
  • Your child will not be released to anyone other than the person you designate without written permission. A photo ID will be required. For the safety of the children, this policy is strictly enforced.
  • If an emergency occurs and you are not able to pick up your son/daughter on time, please call the After School Program office at (203) 322-3496, Ext. 398. or email Karen Raidt at kraidt@kingschoolct.org

Fees: The After School Program fees are based on the number of school days and are billed on a trimester basis by the Business Office.

Drop-In Usage: If for any reason you cannot pick up your son/daughter by 3:00 p.m., the After School Program will accommodate students on a drop-in basis for a fee of $50.00 for the day.
