After School Enrichment

Enrichment Classes

King is pleased to offer After School Enrichment classes to suit a variety of interests. Classes for the 2019-2020 School year will be available in August. Please look out for an email regarding sign-up. 

Registration for these classes is by email only. Please contact the Faculty as listed below directly with any questions or to register for a class. These opportunities are updated every few months, please check the bi-weekly newsletter for announcements of new programs.  If you have any questions concerning After School Enrichment Classes in general, please contact Amy Vorenberg, Head of Lower School, at avorenberg@kingschoolct.org or (203) 322-3496 Ext. 311.

Please note, Enrichment Classes take place when school is in session. There are no classes during School Breaks. In the event of a Snow Day, classes will be re-scheduled for another date.

Kid's Yoga

Yoga exercises your mind, body and breath! Students will strengthen and stretch their bodies while learning how to focus and improve their moods through relaxation and breathing skills. There are many benefits of yoga including improved balance and motor skills, increased creativity, and a strong sense of self and community. 

Classes will consist of warm up, pose work, independent practice, and relaxation time. 

 Students should wear comfortable clothing and bring a snack and a water bottle.

Martial Arts

Discipline, Respect, and Confidence. These are the top three traits taught within the study of martial arts. In this club, students will learn the basics of Tae Kwon Do. They will practice basic kicks, strikes, and forms all while achieving their own personal goals. Students will also learn basics in physical training. Push-ups, sit-ups, stretching, and other various drills will provide students with the energy and confidence to perform in each day of the session. With the instruction from a 4th degree black belt and multi-time Tae Kwon Do champion who has over 20yrs of martial arts experience, this club is guaranteed to give students a new appreciation for martial arts and what it stands for. 

Recommended Attire: Comfortable clothing (sweat pants, t-shirt, sneakers)

Math Games

Students will engage in games to support an understanding of conceptual mathematics and problem-solving skills. Through a focus on the language of mathematics, they will gain an understanding of how we can use math to solve real-world problems using authentic data sources.

Intro to Lego Wedo Robotics

Students will build simple machines, vehicles, and animals using Legos and programming them to move. No experience is necessary. This class is designed for students that have not taken a Lego robotics before.

 

GRADES: 1-3 (limit 10 students)

Vocal Ensemble

Have you ever wanted to improve your singing skills and learn to sing songs that you love? This is the ensemble for you! Students will work to learn healthy vocal techniques, musicianship skills, and sing in harmony. Repertoire will include popular as well as traditional tunes.

Cribbage

Cribbage is a great card game that includes strategy and luck!  Join Mrs. V. in her office to learn how to play a fantastic game that you’ll be able to play for your whole life.  Players will learn how to play with two, three, and four players. Cribbage boards will be provided and practice during the week at home is highly recommended!  Join the Lower School Cribbage Tournament (starting this year!).

Math Olympiad

Students who join Math Olympiad will sharpen their problem-solving skills in a unique collaborative environment as they work with teammates to solve challenging problems each week. These weekly sessions will help prepare students for five monthly MOEMS (MathOlympiad for Elementary and Middle School Students) competitions from November through March. The competitions will help students to work under pressure, refine their computational skills and compete at a national level. This is a challenging program and commitment, ability and a passion for math is required to join the Math Team.

 Please note: The math team requires a 6-month commitment from October through March. Team participants must make every effort to be present for every contest and weekly meeting.  Snack will be provided.

Fun with Snag Golf

King Athletics is proud to present our youth developmental, station-based golf program for our Lower School students. The SNAG program incorporates FMS (Fundamental Movement Systems), involving patterns of combined body movement, along with locomotive, stability, and awareness skills. Join King Varsity Head Coach and LPGA Professional, Roxanne Mitchell, for this fun way to learn golf, while enhancing athletic performance and not having to wait in line for a turn! 

Students should wear comfortable athletic clothing and sneakers and bring a snack and water bottle. SNAG Golf equipment will be provided for all participants.
