King Appoints Micah Hauben as Dean of Athletics

King School is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Micah Hauben as our new Dean of Athletics. Mr. Hauben will join King in July. Head of School Tom Main comments, "A restructuring of King's athletic administration, as outlined in our updated Strategic Plan, includes an enhanced focus on hiring and developing the very best coaches, developing the very best overall program, and working with lead administrators on college placement, student conduct, leadership, marketing, development, admission, alumni affairs, new program initiation and development, and overall financial oversight of the program."

For the past eight years, Mr. Hauben has served as the Director of Athletics and Club Sports for the Needham Public Schools (6-12), in Massachusetts. Needham sponsors one of the largest public school athletic programs in the state. Needham's program, under the direction of Mr. Hauben, has been recognized by the Boston Globe and the Positive Coaching Alliance for both competitive success and positive culture. Prior to Needham, he served as the Director of Boys Athletics and Boys Basketball Coach at Germantown Friends School in Philadelphia. In addition to these very significant appointments, Mr. Hauben has wide ranging and diverse experiences and accomplishments in athletic leadership and management. Among these are:

  • Serving four years as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the Women's Basketball Program at Boston University,
  • Serving three years as the Associate Director and Director of Player Personnel for the Chinese Basketball Association Import Draft Camp,
  • Being named a Positive Coaching Alliance Developmental Zone Fellow in 2015, for a track record of success in creating a culture of developing better athletes and better people,
  • Serving as an originating member (2016) of the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association Inclusion Committee, being recognized for work done around cultural proficiency and diversity training for Needham coaches and athletes,
  • Earning NIAAA Certified Master Athletic Administrator status in 2016 and being awarded a NIAAA Distinguished Service Award this year.

Mr. Hauben holds an undergraduate degree in Sports management from the George Washington University, where he was an Academic All-American on their Division 1 Water Polo Team. He graduated Magna cum Laude from UMASS, with a Masters in Sports Management.
